Part 89: Episode 4, Day 2, Trial: Stargazing

This photo sure doesn't seem "clear as day".

You may have noticed that I didn't press on that line of testimony. There's a good reason; in fact Karma explicitly warned us against "badgering" in this case. You see...
Well, what about the other man?
You cannot expect to be allowed to blithely ignore your promise, Mr. Wright!
I believe you claimed there was a contradiction in the witness's testimony!
Well, find it!
Sound: Whack
If you can!
Mr. Wright, I have to assign you a penalty.
Sound: Damage 2
(Damn...!)
For the first time in this game, we actually take a penalty just for pressing! I even included it as an option in the poll as a bit of a trap. We do get brought back to the cross-examination to try presenting something, though.

Now that we've had the opportunity to take a penalty, here is the scene for getting five penalties and losing the case:

This court sees no reason to further prolong the trial.
Nor is there any need for more time to decide the case against the defendant.
This case is extremely clear. I see no room for mis-interpretation of the facts.
This court finds the defendant, Mr. Miles Edgeworth...
(Guilty!)
The accused will surrender to the court immediately,
to be held pending trial at a higher court within a month from today's date.
That is all. This court is adjourned!
The first part of the text does seem to change based on how far along in the case we are, getting less and less certain as we go. The final shot is Edgeworth at the stand being declared guilty, below the spoiler tag below.

Great, can we have Maya back now?

Oh screw you lich-dragon!

That's, uh...what?

Music: Silence

Don't get too excited, this isn't even a hole, just Lotta getting over-excited.

Oh, come on, that doesn't even make any sense!

I guess we'll just have to hope pressing reveals something more solid, and hope there are no more von Karma penalty-traps this time. The binoculars piercing through the fog doesn't make any sense, but the game won't let me object with just "Duh!"

The fact that you're objecting tells me otherwise, but I suppose we'll get there eventually.

Well that seems like an obvious means of progression, but we have one more line to press on first.

Karma seems happy that we backed off there. Don't worry, we'll be back.

Nothing really stands out there, so let's go back to pressing hard on the camera.

Luckily pressing multiple times typically just repeats the same dialogue, bringing us back to this prompt.

So do we get an updated line here, or a whole new testimony? We're still hearing the testimony music.

Well. That makes our decision rather obvious. Still, I'll press first.

Objection! You're making my witness look bad!

Oh, never mind, you're making her look worse yourself.

Sound: Light Bulb

I can't even pretend this one is worth stopping to ask for input.

This is not a camera setup for taking pictures of a meteor shower.

You know, I got so hung up on the camera being set up to take pictures after a loud noise, I completely missed this aspect of its setup. Guess I kind of got lucky there.

I have a pretty good idea, but this way seems more fun.

Yeah, this contradiction doesn't seem all that relevant to her saying she saw Edgeworth. We're just trying to hang on a little longer.

That sounds like a challenge.

If we had picked "Show evidence" above, we would have just skipped the previous scene and moved right into the next one.

Looks like we have a penalty coming up. There seem to have been more penalties outside of the usual messed-up cross this time around already. We're in the endgame now.

I'm not sure why this line is attributed to Phoenix, but the judge's lips didn't twitch here.

There's really only one thing of interest at the lake.

Well, Your Honor? What do you think?
I... think I'm confused.

Wrong again, Mr. Wright. So very wrong.
You can't get through this one with your weak bluffs!
Y-Your Honor!
Enough playing around! Here's the real evidence!
"Enough playing around" is my line, Mr. Wright!
Sound: Damage 2
There's that penalty. We're still allowed to try again, though.
Uh...

"Proof" might be a bit strong of a word for what we have.

Going straight to saying we have proof is just a tad quicker:
I have it! Proof!
Hmm... Intriguing!
Either way, we continue...

Another penalty coming up if we're wrong here...

This choice isn't too difficult, either, but I've handled the last couple myself, so it's time for you all to weigh in. What's the proof?
