Part 4: Episode Two: Traffic Patrol... of DOOM!

Last time on Police Quest...

Let's roll.

You JUST said that.

Let me have my little fun.

Oh, whatever. Mine is the one on the end.

What are the swanky cars for?

One's for undercover stuff. Don't worry about that. In my line of work it's better that they know I'm coming. The other is a personal vehicle.

Sonny, the driver's door is on the other side.

Well aware of that.

Uh... what are you doing?

I'm walking around the car.

And why are you walking around the car, Sonny? Is this an OCD thing? Do you have to touch your forehead three times afterward? Because it really helps if you take the meds, and...

No, it's policy.

Walking around your car in a circle is policy? Does it keep gremlins away?

In a sense. I'm just checking to make sure the car looks okay.

And what will happen if you don't do that? It'll just spontaneously get a flat tire or blow up or something?

Probably not. But I'm not the only one that drives this car. You've seen some of the people I work with. Wouldn't you at least give it a once-over?

Alright, alright, if it makes you happy.

Following procedures always makes me happy.

Fine. Can we drive now?

Well, we should probably get in first.

Ha-ha, funny man. You do know I'm the one driving, right?

Lord help us.

Oh, hey, a little present! Fortune smiles upon thee, Sonny Bonds! Thou hast found a nightstick!

So in other words, you spin it around really fast so it hurts people more when you hit them with it?

...yes. But it's really hard.

I bet. How long did you spend learning to handle your stick, anyway?

Well, the certification program takes... hey, not cool.

Fine, fine. Are you ready?

As ready as I'm likely to get.

Here we gooooo

Awww, look. That's cute. All the little pastel blocks. Where are we?

In the police station in the upper-left. Be careful pulling out. It's a bit tri-

THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET WHY ARE YOU IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET

OH GOD I DON'T KNOW

JESUS, NOW YOU'RE ON THE WRONG SIDE

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON? I BARELY NUDGED IT!

TURN RIGHT, TURN RIGHT

OH GOD OH GOD I DON'T WANT TO DIE TODAY

WHO IN THE HELL DESIGNED THIS THING? I'M BARELY TOUCHING THE WHEEL HERE! I KEEP LOSING TRACK OF WHERE WE ARE!

You're lucky that light was green! Oh, God.

Okay... okay. I think I'm getting this. I'm getting it. What's that big road?

That is the freeway. Let me give you a tip. Stay the hell away from the freeway. You are not allowed on the freeway. The freeway, it is not for you. Got it?

Come on, Sonny. Where's your sense of adventure?

I think I left it three blocks back along with my dignity and any hope of getting through today with clean pants.

83-32! That's us, right?

Gold star. And an 11-83 is an accident with no other details. Probably someone called it in and didn't tell them what happened, so Dispatch is sending us to check it out.

Cool! Do I get to turn on the siren?

Fig and 4th is a block away. We're already heading right towards it.

Awww.

Look, the light is green anyway. And there's no traffic.

Fine. meanie.

Uh-oh! The green lego is having some serious trouble there!

Oh, wonderful. A crowd. Just what we need. Let's just hope they're staying back this time.

Hell, this doesn't look good.

Yeah, looks like he crashed into that storage building. You should get over there and check on things, Sonny.

Way ahead of you.

A closer look reveals a bloody injury to the left side of his head and a gaping hole in his lower-right jaw!

No pulse. No breathing. No vital signs.

There is a bullet hole in the driver's window. This is not your normal, everyday traffic accident. In your opinion, this man was murdered!

Looks like the only storage he's going to see... is COLD storage.

...

...

...

...

What the hell was that?

It was just a j-

A man is dead here. Show some damn respect. Now if you'll excuse me, some of us have police work to do.

The car radio crackles a response...

"10-4, 83-32. We copy 187pc homicide."

"Be advised, one homicide unit is en route, and the Coroner's Office has been notified. Continue investigation."

What's a 187?

A homicide. Try to keep up.

And should we... check the body or something?

Hell, no. Homicide would have my ass if I disturbed the scene.

We should go talk to these people. One of them might have seen something.

What is he wearing?

I know, I know. Shut up.

"I was buying a paper at the newsstand across the street when I heard the scream of tires," he tells you. "I looked down the street, and here comes this car and a light blue, late-model Cadillac racing down the street side-by-side!"

"When they got closer, I heard a 'bang.' I thought one of 'em had a blowout!"

"But, right after that, this car here lost control and crashed. The light blue Caddie just kept on jammin'!" he finishes breathlessly.

Anything else?

"All I know is," says the witness, "I think I saw part of his license plate number, 'L964.'"

Now what?

Now we wait for Homicide and make sure nobody messes with anything.

Here we go.

Got here quick.

Funny how murders tend to make people rush.

Awesome. Now we get to see all that cool scene-of-crime investigation stuff, right?

"Hit the streets and try to find the rat responsible," says Sgt. Dooley. "I'll introduce the witness to Hamilton."

What?

No, he's right. He's got his job and I have mine.

Writing tickets?

It's not glamorous, but someone has to do it.

This is not fair.

That's life.

Next time on Police Quest: Lytton HEAT!

So you're going to do that every time. Fantastic.
