Shadow Hearts: Covenant

Part 104: A Proud Family Tradition

There are still a couple of things we can take care of here before we go back to Japan. First, we'll do what Lobo suggested and go see Ernest in Montmartre, Paris. Only, Ernest doesn't seem to be here.

Awroo... Awroo! (Where's Ernest? I've got some things to ask him.)
*whimper* (I don't know. He went away all of a sudden.) *whimper, whimper* (But he told me to give you this.)

You got Seventh Key

But the Wolf Bout still isn't over yet. When you've really gathered all of the stamps... ...I promise we'll meet again. Sincerely, Ernest

Damn you, Ernest!

Awroo, awroo! (Well, whatever. Three more, huh? Let me at 'em!)

As long as we're here, the third and final Lucky Chests game is open.

Jimote: It costs 500 Cash to play this time. There are sixteen treasure chests now, but you get four chances to win! And of course, the first person to open them all gets a special prize this time too. So what do you say, Mister?

I had to play three times, but I eventually got them all. We get Decarabia Crest (Aqua Resist, Holy Resist) for winning.

As long as we're nearby, we may as well visit Le Havre as well.

John: Hey, they're back!

Welcome home, Joachim!
Hello, kids! Have you been good? Did you miss me?

John: Yeah! But a new bat came, so we didn't miss you too much!

Huh?

That's right. We found it half-dead in front of the tavern. Me and John have been nursing it back to health. And you know what? That bat told us it's been out looking for you, Joachim, for a long time!
Looking for me...?
Do you know this bat?
Know it? Well, I... Um... What color is this bat, exactly? Was it...silver? Or maybe...

Is...is that bat wearing a bow?!

I finally found you, big brother!
Big brother?!
Oh, man! This guy's got a sister?!
After that fight, you left the castle and never came back. I've been worried! And it's been awful since you left... Ever since you broke that Demon Sword, big brother Keith hasn't stopped laughing. I can't get any sleep!
Th-that was an accident! I was pretending to be a bad-guy wrestler, and it just bent! It wasn't my fault! They just don't make swords like they used to...!
Just save it.

Shaddup! Just leave me alone!
Joachim, aren't you ever coming back home? Why don't you just make up with Keith and come back to your coffin?
I-I want to go home, but... ...But I'm a champion of justice now! I have to be able to hold my head up in front of my fans, don't I?!
You've been watching too much TV, bro! Haven't you had enough of playing hero?
Just leave me alone! This is the path I chose!

Number one: I don't think they had TV in 1915. (Unless Roger invented some kind of crazy steampunk one. Can you imagine the kind of programming he'd put on it?) Number two: Goddammit, Joachim, I went through a lot of trouble to get that sword, and your clumsy ass bent it?!

Remember how little brother Keith said he wanted to follow Yuri to the very end? Well, I understand how he felt. I can't waste my life. I've got to pour some energy into it, do something worthwhile! I've been alive for hundreds of years, but, right now, this is the first time I finally feel really alive!
Gee, Joachim... I always thought you were a big dummy, but somehow...you sound pretty heroic to me right now...

The Valentines don't have the firmest grasp on reality, do they? (Also, I'd been thinking Keith was the oldest, oops.)

You got Dark Tower

It's a present! It makes noise if you shake it, 'cause there are little people working in that building! And they're facing a deadline right now, you know, so they're really irritable. It makes 'em really fierce in battle!
What in the world is this girl talking about...? Anyway, I don't know if I'm too thrilled getting this weapon...

It's just not the same as taking someone's laundry pole while their drawers are still attached to it, is it?

And now it's time to test your skills! I have to make sure you're ready for that weapon, you know.
What?! I have to fight you?
Of course! And I'm really good too! If you lose, it's game over, you know! In the fifth turn, I'm going to hit you with a really deadly blow, so plan your strategy carefully. Okay, here we go!

And, like his brother before him, Joachim joins the Valentine tradition of beating up family members for fun and profit.

At this point in the game, Peach Bat should be easy to beat as long as Joachim is over level 40. Joachim starts out automatically equipped with the Dark Tower.

She'll spend every turn using Energy Charge, which she doesn't really need as her normal attacks hit for 3000+ damage.

The important thing to keep in mind is that she's a big fat liar. She'll attack Joachim on her fourth turn, not her fifth, so you need to defeat her before then. Joachim should be able to do it in his normal form if you don't miss any rings. You can ensure his victory by using Grand Papillon or Golden Bat to face her.

You can also equip a Replacement Man on Joachim before the fight to bring him back with one health if she gets her turn.

If this happens, you've got one more shot to bring her down, so don't waste it healing.

Besides winning Dark Tower and not getting a Game Over (she wasn't lying about that), we get Priest Earrings (reduce Mana cost by 20%) and another Lottery Ticket.

Well, I guess this is goodbye. I like it here though, so I think I'll be staying for a while.

...Man, she's got a mouth on her. I'm glad we don't have to take her along with us.

She said the fifth turn, but she would have hit me in the fourth! My sister...

It's that strange building near Shinagawa Station in Tokyo... You want it?
Not in the least.

Looks like we're done in Europe for now. There's just one thing before we see Kato...

I've apparently been carrying around all the Eternal Boneyard Crests for a while now. That's the Flame Desert to the lower left, Wilderness of War to the upper right and Palace of Transgression to the lower right.

The layout goes like this:
code:
1--2
   |
   3--4
      |
      5--6
And here are the clues:

Samigina: Appears as a small donkey. He accounts the souls of the heretics. He has similar powers to Murmur, near to whom he lives.

Glasyalabolas: Appears as a rotting dog with eagle wings. He loves fresh blood and aids killers. Lives in a cold marsh to prevent his decay.

Bifrons: Appears as a beautiful youth with horns. He can control corpses and make them appear alive. He resides next to Samigina.

Bune: Appears as a three-headed dragon with jade scales. He animates the corpses of soldiers from his home next to the Wilderness of War.

Murmur: A griffin in green armor and crown. He makes slaves of souls that wander too close, and resides in the Boneyard's only mansion.

Furcas: Appears as an old man astride a blue horse. The greatest philosopher in all hell. He lives in the Boneyard near the Palace.

With only six Crests, this one isn't hard. If you get the answers, feel free to post them, but please use spoiler tags to avoid giving them away to anyone that wants to try to figure it out on their own.
