Part 136: Destiny
Well, here goes nothing.
Jogging up the path starts a cutscene.
Of course, we can't just go straight to Kato.
Where's your master?
Behind us, on the Field of Takamagahara.
I suppose you won't let us by.
The Mutant Apes live and die along with the Master. If you want to fight him, you'll have to get through us.
No problem.
And, of course, the "gods of Nippon" that Kato invoked have powered up Hien and Raiden. Meet Fuujin and Raijin.
They fight pretty much the same as they always have. They like to do a Combo-Guard attack, so it's best to concentrate on them one at a time.
I usually go for Raijin first.
Then it's Fuujin's turn.
The reward for the fight isn't as ridiculous as it seems; you can still turn around at this point and leave the Gates of Time to finish up sidequests or go shopping.
Tiiiiiiimbeeeerrr!!
If it wasn't so funny, I'd feel really bad about this.
Oh, well. Approaching the giant floating circle...thing triggers the transition to the next area.
And now for something completely different!
All the skulls are moving around. I feel like we've wandered onto the set for a heavy metal video.
And here's the man of the
.........
Yuri! Surely you've got something to say to him! ...No?
.........
...
......Fine. I'll just be over here in the corner, then.
Can you see it? The other side of time?
Yeah.
Well then...
Let's go!
Kato starts glowing. This isn't going to turn into an episode of Power Rangers, is it?
A light shoots down from the sky.
Make that three lights.
Wait, is that...?
The souls of the Mutant Apes transform into the Three Sacred Treasures because why not.
And then Kato goes super-nova.
Yuri status: giving no fucks.
Um, Kato, are you okay?
...K-Kato?
Oh, I guess he's fine. See? He's...smiling.
Kato has also transformed into an ancient Japanese god, specifically
I had to fight him twice to get both endings, so for the second fight, I stuck the girls in their alternate outfits, slapped Mind's Eye on Yuri, and defeated him with Eternal Key (Lucia, 74 Hits).
Always, always, prioritize taking the Gem out first. She has a spell called Supreme Divinity which heals her HP and, more importantly, another one called Profound Purity which cancels all stat-boosts on your party.
The Mirror should be your next target; he can buff the enemy party and has a spell called Frenzied Surge which hits everyone in your party for moderate damage.
You should finish up taking out the Sword next before tackling Susano-o. He only has physical attacks and isn't much of a threat, but taking the three underlings out quickly will prevent Susano-o from making a Combo Attack.
That said, Susano-o has a unique method for Combo Attacks. Any of the underlings still on the field will become part of his model and can't be targeted. If all four are still alive when he does this, he can easily destroy your party when he attacks on his next turn.
Susano-o also has a spell called Final Revelation that not only damages your entire party, it drains MP, too. Besides that, he has various single target "Howl" attacks. There's basically one for each element, and they each one will cause a different Status Effect.
Yuri's For Tomorrow... is great for this fight, since it'll damage an enemy and then heal each person in the party.
If you know what to expect, this can be a very easy fight.
And the world is saved, once again.
Normal Fight
Cheesing the Final Boss
It's always sad when a friend goes crazy and turns into an ancient god/abomination and you have to kill him.
Kato!
It's good...that it ended...this way. Soon, Takamagahara and the Vessel will disappear within the time warp... Once you've set foot here, y-you can't...return...to the present.
Yeah, looks that way.
You must pray.
Huh?
Pray, as hard as you can...for the world...the world you want.
The world I want?
Yes... The best...one...you can...imagine...
Uh! Hey!
Then...you can...return.
Kato!
Thank you...my friend...
Yuri!
Come on now, let's pray! For a better world to return to! We can do it, if we really try!
Yes!
Hm!
Uh-huh!
Awroo!
