Black Screen

SHUT UP DAD!!

What did you say?

You want me to be a fire fighter... Right... OK you'll see

Wait what are you doing with this lighter?

I'll prove you that I'm a fire fighter, Dad. And I start right here, right now!

Now don't burn this! Damn you fool! You're about to kill us all!

WHAT'S WRONG DAD! I THOUGH THAT FIRE FIGHTER WEREN"T AFRAID OF ANYTHING!

YOU'RE CRAZY!!

Karen! NO!!... ..hu...hu... she's gone... ... WOO!!

Vincent, now back from the near dead, continuing to prove himself a manly man in the face of corpses, ladies and gentlemen.

She saved you...

Did she sacrifice her life for me...?

Somehow... Anyway, the most important is that you're alive and you can finish all of this.

...What the hell is this all about?

That's Emilie's corpse on the ground, by the way

That girl left ammunition and a shotgun... That will be useful.

Well, since we like looting corpses so much, how's about a closer look at that guy out the window? Doing so gives us a healthpack. Anyways, in case you couldn't tell, we're back in the regular world dining room as Vincent again. This chapter isn't that long because, as I checked, there's not really any new dialogue. However, I did realize I missed the puppets on the opening bedroom in the regular world, though you'll recall I found them in the Otherworld. Vincent has this to say about them:

This is a puppet made in wood. Maybe the house's owner is a puppet master.

I'm sure there's nothing to that though. Anyways, the game is terrible at railroading us presently, so you'll just have to trust that I know where I'm going (I didn't at the time going through this). Good news, there's a room nearby we haven't been to yet as Vincent.

Bad news, it's the toilet.

The toilet... There is something shiny in there...but I can't get it out with my hands...

Good for Vincent for being no James Sunderland. I feel this video from Silent Hill 3 is quite appropriate at this time. Luckily, we also happen to have a magnet on a chain handy. Using it nets us the Rusty Key. While the rest of the toilets in the game register as locked to us now, I'll save us both time and tell you that's not where the key leads. Up on the second floor is a room that's been locked this whole time that is marked as a bedroom on the map. It's next to the elevator for those of you playing at home. Let's go there now, shall we?

Or not.

What the hell!!! A monster in our world!! I can't believe it!

Karen become really powerful...

What is it supposed to mean?

You have to stop her before it is too late.

Easy to say... urgh... my heart... it hurts...

Yup, the Regular world is no longer safe. These monsters are pretty nasty. They move fast and attack in two ways, either while standing up or by crouching. The standing attacks take off 10% of our health, while the crouches take off 20. Also, they take more than 5 shotgun blasts, so I had to reload, which is awkward in this game, as the reload button also pauses things. Anyways, let's get to that last bedroom now.

Well, isn't this a pleasant room. Why, it even has a comfy upturned bed.

I wouldn't like to sleep on it...

And that lovely view...

There is a grid on this window... I feel like a prisoner.

Anyways, the reason we came in here in on the wall to the left there.

A strongbox... It must hide something really precious... there is something engraved on de front door... a tale... (sic)

quote:

While going to the hospital I saw a car with 7 women, every women carried 7 bags, each bag contained 7 cats, each cat having 7 kittens. With every kittens, cats, bags, and humans, how many were going to the hospital?

This is an old riddle I personally first encountered a variation on I'd say over 20 years ago, but that's just me. Do you know the answer? You have to type it in just using the standard number keys here. The car you passed wasn't going to the hospital, just you were. So the answer is "001" For solving the riddle, the safe opens, and inside is the Black Pearl. Next we head out and-

Fight another monster. Goody. After that there's nothing to do left in the Regular World except for something I think is an accident and creates a slight sequence break, but I'll get to that momentarily. But getting back on track, we use our usuall method of slipping through to the Otherworld via the office on the second floor.

AHHHHHHH!!!

What? This house is supposed to be empty!!!

Help me!! MOM! DAD! Where are you?!?

What did I do?!?

HELP ME! MOM DAD? HAAA NO! MOM! DAD! Please!!

I... I'M COMING!! WHERE ARE YOU?!?

WHO IS THERE?

I... I am Vincent I am a... a... fire fighter, I will rescue you.

There you are!!!

Sniff...

What... what's wrong?

My parents... they are in their room. This is locked and they don't
answer me...

DAMNED!! What have I done?

Death Count: 19

What is your name?

Karen...

Ok listen to me Karen! We have to get out of here. I'm going to carry you. Hang on!

Urgh, I've got to... to carry on!

Yeah, Vinnie, you do that. I'm kinda starting to see why you might be stuck in this mess. But anyways, my magic sense of direction is guiding us downstairs via the elevator, after which we round the corner and-

See the way blocked by a bunch of bottles? Okay, that one's new.

quote:

There are three bottles: one filled entirely with 8 gallons of sand and the other two are empty but contain respectively 5 and 3 gallons of sand. There is also a kind of button the floor (sic) ...maybe he could unlock the door.

And if you actually examine the puzzle,

quote:

Give me exactly 4 gallons of sand and I'll open the door

Now this is a relatively simple puzzle, but a tedious one to explain. They just want you to put a jar with four gallons of sand in it on the button, but to do so you have to move the sand between jars until you get one with just that amount in it. It's a pretty classic puzzle, and in my opinion a pretty fun one.
First, pour the eight gallon jar into the three gallon jar then, pour the three gallon jar into the five gallon jar. Then pour the eight gallon jar again into the three gallon jar and again pour the three into the five. You now have the following amounts: 2-5-1. Pour the five gallon jar into the eight, then the three into the five, then the eight into the three. You now should have 4-1-3. You can either put the 8 gallon jar down, or pour the three into the five to have a second 4 gallons of sand. either will work on the button.
The sequence break I mentioned earlier? This is it. For some reason the puzzle appears in both worlds but only needs to be solved once. Also, there's no reward for you in the regular world, so let's instead stay here in the Otherworld and go in.

There is a pearl in that cocoon.

A yellow one to be precise. And now we finally find out why we've been collecting these darn things. You may recall way back me pointing out that there's a note on the attic door. Well it finally becomes relevant because the door is locked. When we try to open it, we get this:

quote:

I am sad in the morning,
Joyful in the afternoon,
Angery in the evening,
And dead at nightfall.

And we're supposed to use the different colored pearls in the holes to open the door. You COULD try to guess based on the 4 colors and stereotypes, and you'd probably be right, but you can get hints, by reading the descriptions to the pearls when you look at them in your inventory, something that usually is bland and pointless throughout the games. But the catch here is that you only get the descriptions if you look at them in the Regular World for some reason! Sigh, fine.

The Red Pearl... it is like all the rage in the world is concentrating on it...

That's a Yellow Pearl. When I look at it I feel happy!

Frightening Black Pearl... I'm cold.

What a beautiful Blue Pearl... is...is that a tear flowing along my face?

There, now we can get back to business.

After that, I should hope the solution is obvious to you all. Clockwise from the top: Yellow, Red, Black, Blue. And then after solving that puzzle, we open the final door.

I will have my revenge.

I can't let you do... you're destroying everything!!

This is your fault!!

Karen is probably the toughest monster in the trilogy, as well she should be being the third final boss. She's fast, and she hits very hard, swiping for 15-25% at a time with her long arms. But if you hammer away at her fast enough with the shotgun, you should be able to take her down, though she'll probably get at least one hit in.

Urg... Medicine doesn't act anymore...argghh.

Well done... Everything will be better now...

Alessa? Where are you?

I'm just a voice, my spirit will come, ...soon

What?

The murders, at the orphanage everything was done to wake me up.

I... I don't understand...

I though that kill her with the help of Lucas would be enough but no... another part of her survive. And then, it missed Emilie, the last child who survived from the murder in the orphanage because she was sick. (sic???)

Who... who are you?

I'm the evil part of Alessa. I needed the murder of all the children from this orphanage to awake, including my sister in her evil form.

But... but... urghh... Emilie saved my life.

No! I needed her dead. I kept you alive in order to kill Karen. Now everything is done, I will come soon and the only witness is you, a dying man.

Urggg..., arg... My heart!!

I see no reason to keep you alive... goodbye...

Noooooo!!!

DEATH COUNT: 20

THE END

The game ends rather aprubtly right there. They don't even give you a "The End" sign like I had the courtesy to. You would think after all that there'd be some closure, but instead we have an ending to the series that feels like a rather abrupt running out of time. How disappointing.
