Part 57: Update 53 Legend
Welcome back, everybody! I hope you're all ready for some bonus content, because this update is chock full of it. Like some sort of bonus update, if you will. This update has been a while in the making, so let's start at the beginning: With the turning in of the final bounty, Lord Zivilyn Bane.
Guildmaster: Y, you defeated everyone on the Bounty List! Thanks to you, people can sail the skies freely and safely!
This marks the first step towards unlocking the final secrets of the game: collecting every treasure, every bounty, every Piastol fight, every Cham and every Moonfish unlocks the final title of the game.
And so it was that Vyse went to the Sailor's Guild as an exploration king, and left it a legend.
And while we're at it, we may as well see just how far our legend has spread.
Everywhere. Okay, so technically they all have things to say about every title, but that doesn't sound nearly as badass.
So, what now? Now comes the hard part. Well, not so much hard as incredibly long and tedious, but still. See, Skies of Arcadia has something called The Three Secrets. In a nutshell, three ultimate endgame things that are unlocked by meeting all the requirements for the Legends title, plus a whole lot more. Two of the extra requirements are easy, you just have to get all the crewmembers and beat all four giant monsters (Roc, Obispo, Alania and Giant Looper). One of the remaining two is to win twelve non-story ship battles, which is also easily done. The final one is to kill a total of 2500 enemies.
If you remember, I've had the White Map equipped all game to make for more streamlined videos, and as a result my kill total is barely over 1000. That means I have a whole lot of grinding to do now. In the meantime here's a few other things to keep you entertained.
We will always be together. We'll watch the sunset when you get back. It'll be so romantic. You're such a dreamboat. My ring size is...oh, my goodness! Oh, my goodness! What am I saying?! Gilder, we can discuss this later...hurry back!
Where you when I was writing the last update and spent twenty minutes combing the sky looking for you?
And on the subject of Clara, someone wanted a gif of Belle.
I put the blame for this squarely on you, whoever you are.
And doesn't the time just fly away? Incidentally, the party is now ridiculously powerful.
See? For reference, there were in the low 40s/high 30s in the last update. Level 60 is high enough to curbstomp just about anything with minimal effort and virtually no risk of death. The stats are actually more of a secondary bonus than anything else, the REALLY big advantage to being this high level is getting a downright ludicrous 19SP every turn.
And now if you'll excuse me, I have to pay a visit to Looper Land.
AHAHAHAHAHA! BURN, YOU MOTHERFUCKERS! BURN!
And that's why Omega Psyclone is only marginally useful. It's only useful in the level gap between a starting SP of 12 and 14, because Rain of Swords is physical damage and can kill Loopers. It is incredibly cathartic.
Now that biggest hurdles are out of the way, all that remains is the 12 non-story ship battles. The best way to do this one is to find some hapless Black Pirate out by Gordo's Bistro, kill them, save, and reload. So I spent the better part of an hour spawncamping and one-shotting some poor sods, basically.
On the whole, I have no problem with this.
And now the big question: What do we get for such an enormous grind?
The first of the Three Secrets is hidden on the Mystery Merchant. I should point out that there is absolutely no indication of this, or even that any of the secrets exist or that you should try grinding out ridiculous numbers of enemies, by the way. Ah well, c'est la vie.
And here it is. The Sky Fang. This is the ultra-super-secret-mega-weapon of the game. With an absolutely gigantic 255 attack and 224 accuracy. Granted, the Final Cupil has 300 attack in this and 500 in the Dreamcast version, but Cupil doesn't have Pirate's Wrath. Yet.
Let's go take a look at it.
It's a weapon that actually doesn't look ridiculous with Vyse's bizarre dual wielding technique!
Also, the other blade is fucking huge. This pleases me, even if ridiculous amounts of grinding for cartoonishly oversized weapons is stepping a little too close to MMORPG territory.
So that's there's the first secret. How about number two?
It's invisible, there's no indication that it's there, and in fact it wasn't there until fulfilling all the requirements. The Golden Hamachou is a bit of an odd duck amongst discoveries, because it doesn't actually show up in the discovery log and you can't turn it in at the guild, making it completely worthless in any practical sense. But hey, money means nothing by this point anyway, and it's shiny! That has to count for something, right?
Okay, so the second Secret is a little underwhelming, but despair not, for the third secret more than makes up for it. So much so, in fact, that I'm going to save it for the end of the update. I want this LP to go out with a bang, see. In the meantime, let's have a look at some other things that didn't make it to the LP until now.
Don't worry, no more Belle gifs, I promise. No, we're headed for something much worse, which lurks in the Dark Rift.

OH GOD I REGRET EVERYTHING
Elcian. The Black Looper. On raw stats it's the strongest enemy in the game by a huge margin, with an absolutely astronomical 1400 Will and 2000 Attack. That's, uh, a lot. The strongest Bounties in the game max out at a measly 800 attack, to put that into perspective. Elcian only has the basic Pyri and Slipara spells, but with raw stats like that those are all he needs.
Sort of.
Being a Looper, Elcian does have one absolutely crippling weakness: He doesn't have any special attacks. Not a one. All he has are his basic attacks and spells, and that means you can completely shut him down with the simple application of Delta Shield and Skull Shield.
Oh, and don't forget to equip the Black Map. Elcian likes to run from battle, and the Black Map prevents that.
His defensive stats are nothing to sniff at either. Recall that this did over 7000 damage to Ramirez. But when he can't actually harm you in any way, it's really just a matter of time.
But that's no fun, is it? Let's go see what happens when you use no defensive skills whatsoever!

Ow.
That...actually wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting. If Elcian had spells more powerful than the basic Pyri it would probably be an instant wipe, but as-is that's easily survivable. Granted, I'm ludicrously overleveled, but I was still expecting more.
Of course, when I tried fighting him with the level 40 save file he outsped the entire party even with Quika active, slept them all and then one-shotted them each in turn with regular attacks. Could it be done? Probably, with sleep-preventing accessories and a whole lot of healing crystals, but it would be an incredibly long and slow fight.
Now here's an interesting thing: What exactly IS Elcian? Obviously he's a black Looper, but popular theory is that there's more to it than that, specifically that he's a ghost or reincarnation of Galcian. I don't know about that, but there's certainly a lot to suggest some sort of link between the two. Elcian appears in the Dark Rift after Galcian dies, the two have a similar name in both the English and Japanese versions, and most damning of all Elcian drops Galcian's medallion, as seen above. They even share being Yellow elemental, as Black doesn't actually exist in the battle system. It's an interesting theory, at the very least.
Aside from the Valuan Medallion, the biggest reasons for killing Elcian (and he respawns after leaving the area, so you can farm repeatedly if you feel like it) is that he has a pretty good chance of dropping Moonberries, along with a chance at the highly exclusive Sylph Seeds. It's a handy way to unlock all the Super Moves.
I don't have to do that because after grinding out 1500 enemies I have Moonberries erupting from every orifice. Let's go spend them!
Oh yes. I'd put money that a sizable portion of the thread has been waiting for this moment.
You mess with me, you mess with Claudia!
The Claudia is a solid contender for the Most Badass Attack In
By the way, don't choose Gilder to stuff full of power seeds from Ilchymis. Ramirez's final form can and will use The Claudia against you, and that will pretty much guarantee a wipe.
And now for our resident airsick prince. Note that I have 11 Moonberries left over after learning every attack in the game.
Your trial shall be swift and just!
And then he summons a dragon to eat them. This makes possibly the least sense of any attack in the game.
Now face your punishment!
But hey, when you can look this awesome, who cares about making sense?
The Judgement is Enrique's answer to Pirate's Wrath. It's a good deal weaker and costs less SP, but honestly there's no reason to use it if you have the opportunity to use the genuine article Pirate's Wrath instead. Enrique kinda gets short-changed on his attacks, but with Justice Shield being as good as it is he's always got a spot in any really tough fight.
Make sure to check out the video listing at the end of this post for videos of all the Super Moves, plus the Captain commands and Cupil's forms and the missing attacks from Ramirez and Zelos, by the way!
On that note, let's talk a bit about the other various attacks. I think I talked a bit about the Japanese names for the attacks of our main party members already, but not Gilder and Enriques'. If anything Gilder's attacks had even more badass names in Japanese Gunslinger was named Grand Showdown, Aura of Denial was Ain't Effective and The Claudia was fantastically named as I AM GILDER! Enrique's attacks were all named in Spanish, seeing as he's the Notspanish prince. Royal Blade was Mil Espada (Thousand Swords), Justice Shield was Escudo (Shield), and The Judgement was La Coronación (The Coronation).
But enough of that. It's time for the moment you've all been waiting for. This LP will clock in at one year old in three days, but alas, all things must come to and end, and so we head back to Crescent Isle for a final and well-deserved rest.

It really is nice to come home once in a while. Finally, I can have some time to unwind!
I'd like to thank everyone who's been posting in my thread, without all of the constant interest in the game and LP I would never have had the motivation to finish this.
Heeeey, baby! How've you been, Red? Ya miss me??
But it's not over just yet!
Oh! I sounds like there's someone out on the deck! Aika, is it a friend of yours?
That crude voice...that musky smell...could it be...?
Heh heh, I'm touched, baby! You remembered me! I'm back for ya! And this time, I'm not takin' no as an answer!
Guess who's baaaack!
I knew it...that would explain why I've been feeling nauseous all day.
Vigoro...you're alive!!
As much as ever. Since the last time we met, I've become an Air Pirate, as you can see. And I've searched the world for the strongest sailors I could find, and picked fights with all of them. Fight after fight, I emerged victorious! And I am stronger than ever! With this strength, you won't stand a chance against me!
W, wait a second there, Vigoro...are you saying you want to fight? Again?!
Of course! And I even did everything the proper Air Pirate way! I boarded your ship, and now I'm challenging you to a fight! Come on, Vyse! Once I defeat you, I will become the king of all Air Pirates!
King of the Air Pirates? Come on, that one has to be intentional.
Air Pirate Vigoro, everybody! I have no idea why, but the writers just fucking loved Vigoro. He's the last of the Three Secrets, and he is one tough fight. I have no idea what his exact stats are, but they're all through the roof. Remember I said Elcian has the highest raw stats in the game? I lied. Vigoro blows Elcian clean out of the
And he has his Vigoro's Charm attack from the prison cell back! He'll still only ever use it on Aika, and it inflicts Confusion with 100% accuracy. On the whole it's about the least dangerous thing he can do.
See what I mean about his stats being through the roof? Vigoro is an absolute tank and I'd estimate him at around 50,000hp.
Let me put that in perspective for you. The Delphinus only has 58,000hp. The Draco has a comparatively puny 40,000. Vigoro has more HP than his ship does.
This is the second least dangerous thing he can do, and it still hurts. A lot. It's also the second most dangerous he can do, but it's such a distant second that it really doesn't seem that way.
This is the most dangerous thing he can do.
Anyone he points that cannon at is flat-out dead if they're not named Drachma and also leveled up to absurd heights. You really, really want Enrique for this fight if you plan on getting through it cleanly, but the thread voted on favour for the old sea-dog and I have no complaints about this.
Enrique doesn't have Hand of Fate, see.
Air Pirate Vigoro gives a gigantic amount of exp, as you would expect from the ultimate optional boss of the game.
He also drops the Mesh Tights, which boost Attack and Will by a sizeable amount.
Only Aika can wear them. The description says they were bought for her by a secret admirer .
Even after all that training, I still can't beat you...
Vigoro...
But, by fighting with you, I discovered something, and I've decided to make it my new motto. I decided to adopt your policy of no matter what happens, never give up. I'm not going to give up on defeating you. I'm going to become stronger, and next time we meet, I will surely beat you!
...Understood. Whenever you're ready, come find me.
I swear, he sure is persistent.
Yep.
Someday, I'll have my own headquarters like this! And I'll fill it with the most beautiful women from around the world!
And now it's over, for the final time. Again, you have all been absolutely fantastic and I've had a blast making this for you. See you around!
