David's determination has been his most outstanding characteristic and it shows in his actions. During the ten years, he never lost courage and was one of the few that wanted to leave the bunker early. He has go an outstanding education and is a specialist for light weapons. This and his leading qualities had made him the leader of the outside troops. He has got a close friendship to Roman Willstein, whom he didn't respect just because of his military knowledge. David has loved Sorana from the first moment he saw her and over the course of the past three years, he has become attached to her. He thinks highly of Professor Jolinzky because of his uncompromising being and his never breaking optimism which is similar to his nature.

His rough nature obscures the fact that he is absolutely loyal and has a strong sense for fairness. One can always count on him. He got an excellent education in the Russian army and is an expert for explosives.

As the assistant of Professor Petrow, she blindly followed his suggestion to flee into the bunker in 2003. The beautiful and intelligent woman made her way between the males. Everybody thinks highly of her because of her humanity and sheltered manners. Although she has got medical knowledge which she had to use in the last years. Sorana has been involved with David for three years. Their mutual love has given them the strength to overcome the daily routines of life in a bunker.

Prof. Dr. Sergej Petrow had a golden future as an excellent scientist. He belonged to the most successful scientists of Russia and is a specialist for genetics. His razor-sharp mind is certainly his most outstanding feature. But he himself would never give this fact a special emphasis. He is undemanding, tolerant and acts always well thought. It was incumbent on him to fix the day of the return to the surface. Petrow's respect for Roman's willpower and leading qualities has given way for a friendship over the years.

Roman Willstein is a strong character and still ambitious. He was accepted as a leader in the bunker not only because of his military rank during the ten years. In June 2009 he had an accident while he was repairing the ventilation system. The complicated fracture of his left leg could not be treated correctly with the simple medical devices in the bunker. Since then he can't use his leg properly. His handicap and status as the group leader leads to the fact that he doesn't leave the bunker and fights on the field. He has got a close friendship to David Reaves. Both are on the same wavelength. He also thinks highly of Professor Petrow.

Professor Dr. Vigo Jolinzky worked under Professor Dr. Petrow and also stood by him for the last ten years. Although his main subject was military science, he added a study of his passionate subject chemistry. In 2007 a terrible blow happened to him in form of a nervous disease. From then on he is confined to a wheelchair which was made out of the bunker stocks. Although it was a real blow to him he has not lost his favor for black humor till today. His psychological stability is a real phenomenon. Professor Dr. Vigo is naturally no member of the outside troops because of his handicap. He has got the task to stay in radio contact with the leader of the outside troops.
