Part 50: Obong-Ni Ridge: Turn 25
This is the penultimate turn of this battle, so any comments or suggestions on the upcoming battle would be appreciated. As of now, we are considering an early 60's Amphibious Assault (Canada assaults Denmark w/Scandanavian Allies) with a 2:1 points handicap.
Obong-Ni Ridge: Turn 25
More shooting at North Koreans! The foremost infantry left behind a lot of smoke when they were driven back, which means that our flanking infantry platoon will be safe for a couple more turns (read: the rest of the game).
Units leaving smoke behind upon death can be a double-edged blade. On the one hand, it protects the retreating units from taking additional fire (which would probably cause a rout). On the other hand, the effect of the smoke on the battle at large can be massively unpredictable. Naturally, the AI isn't quite up to the task of taking advantage of this mechanic.
Our units facing the ridge are starting to face retaliatory fire, so they stand down after a bit. I doubt this will have enough of an effect to change the face of the battle in a single turn.
North Korea effectively secures it's defeat in this moment. It's most critical asset (it's multiple artillery units) perform terribly this turn, firing only small volleys at nowhere in particular. This is perhaps the worst artillery strike we have seen in the game, and there is no reason for the enemy to let up right now, so I have no idea what caused this.
Our troops do a good job of repulsing the enemy this turn, but - like I mentioned before - the enemy force charging and shooting at us isn't much of a concern. The main threat comes from infiltrators that can cut down stranded units and capture rearline victory points. If only something could show up and take care of them.
That works. In the eleventh hour, the Air Support Elements actually do something useful! Since aircraft can generally see most units on the battlefield, and the infiltrating units are closest to them, they are the first to get cut down by aerial cannon fire. On a broader level, almost every enemy unit in the area is pinned now.
This is it; there is one more turn left before it all ends. If any one has any comments or suggestions about the end of this battle or the beginning of the next, they should be given now.
