Part 52: Obong-Ni Ridge: The Aftermath
Obong-Ni Ridge: The AftermathFrom viewing the map, it becomes clear that the North Korean force was starting to visibly decline after 25 turns of frequent losses - except of course in the north, where they still have a massive blob of infantry waiting to overrun out position like ants.
Of the first few pages of units, the only formations that are anything close to intact are those that did not participate in any direct combat. Things like Artillery or Trucks. This makes me wonder if using the Pershings to outflank the enemy and gut their rearline units would have been a viable early game tactic (then again, that's probably what the B10 Recoilless Rifles are for).
There are probably at least a few separate companies that were completely annihilated trying to take the ridge; no wonder it seemed like their numbers were endless.
The infantry that participated later in the mission are hardly faring better, although know I know where all of those damned LMG teams came from.
I have a feeling that if I could go back and correct one or two mistakes made in the earlier few turns, the match would have turned out very differently. Mainly, I think saving the payloads of the attack planes for a crucial strike would have resulted in a victory that actually felt like a victory. (Instead, they were wasted trivially fairly early on).
Also, I wonder what would have happened if the two initial tanks were moved to better defensive positions early on to postpone the invasion of the ridge for one or two turns. The first Pershing Section didn't ever see a lot of use, so I'm sure that was one of the crucial mistakes I made in this match.
As for the next match, the overall opinion seems to be a
- Battalion Strength Match
- Canada vs Denmark
- Around 1965 (although, there were a lot of different opinions on this, so more input would be appreciated)
- Amphibious Invasion (although whether the invader is Canada or Denmark needs to be decided)
- The Danish player will have access to a certain amount of Norwegian support.
Since Sam. seems to be adamant on playing the defender, and I myself am Canadian, it will probably be a Canadian invasion of Scandanavian territory (over a fishing dispute?).
Also; as for the singleplayer missions, should I continue with the second one until the next mission is settled upon, or abandon it for the time being?
