Part 95: Operation Chocolate Spain: Finale
Operation Chocolate Spain: FinaleThere's not much to say tactically about this turn because the time for tactics has pretty much passed at this point. All that occurs is a straight punch through the center of the map, causing the rout of a pair of Legionaro Squads and one or two Mechanised Squads, and the suppression of everything else within rifle range.
The Greyhounds stop the group heading down the main road dead in their tracks. Out of the 4 infantry units seen in the shot, 3 of them are either routed or retreating by the end of the turn. If my calculations regarding the Spanish force composition is correct, then around half of their total remaining force is on the run. I would not want to be a Spanish commander at this point.
Our Mortar and Artillery batteries have another wave of attacks lined up. I just hope the lines stay relatively solid for 1 or 2 more turns for the shots to meet their targets properly.
However, the match ends before any of those things can be resolved. It looks like we didn't do too badly at all. Our total casualty number is just 10, most of which would be from the two M8 Greyhounds that we lost during the battle. The rest would be the Cavalry that got caught in crossfire early in the match.
The Spanish, however, lost twice as many vehicles as we did men, and nearly 100 men of their own. Ouch.
The Legionaros are the only formation that is still mostly intact. Most other formations have been wiped out in their entirety.
Also noticable are the two unused F-86 Sabre attack planes in the Spanish Army List. MT would have only had enough points for the cheaper Napalm variant.
Still, they could have been deadly if they had hit the ridgeline early in the battle. AMX-13s don't exactly have heavy top armour.
Looking at the revealed map, the Spanish had almost nothing behind the battle line we just thrashed. There's a single .50 Cal HMG, and an immobilised M3 Halftrack (that the Howitzer rounds probably got), and of course the HQ Team.
Unfortunately, I would imagine the motorless Spanish survivors are probably all Prisoners at this point, and will probably be used as bargaining chips to secure vital Moroccan interests in the region. In any case, I have to email MT and give him the good news.
Also, I like a lot of the ideas I see for the next match. On that note, I was thinking the final match would be a massive affair (maybe around 10000 points) with multiple commanders and subcommanders on each side. How do you feel about this idea?
