Part 15: Chapter 3, Part 10
Before setting off into parts unknown, we should pay Lord British a visit.
: The Shrine of Compassion has been cleansed, my lord.
: At last, some respite from the harrowing decline. But, there is more work to do. There are seven more shrines in the land.
: If compassion was corrupted, so may the others be.
: Yes, the shrines' corruption is linked to the columns.
: Yes, that makes sense. Cleansing the shrines should then help to deal with the column's influence in the rest of Britannia. Such knowledge is useful.
: Might you have any news that may help me?
: I know not if this is of any help to you, but one of my astronomers tells me that the moons are behaving strangely. I don't know any more than that, but will investigate it further.
: If you'll pardon me, I'll take my leave now.
: Yes, yes, you have my leave. Please, continue your quest my friend.
Have you ever noticed how movies and TV shows often simply assume the characters have been kept informed of current events, rather than repeatedly showing the same conversation of one guy running around and telling everyone what's happening? Not that Origin was good at movies either.
We have some more gold to spare, so I'm jumping on this. The castle arms master teaches us the Hammer Shot.
Our last stop is upstairs, in the castle alchemy lab. Cleansing the first Shrine has unlocked the first circle of magic, so we're going to bind some of the scrolls we've collected to our spellbook.
This is a Binding Ritual Circle. In order to add spells to our book we need one of these circles. They're quite common: at least one of them can be found in every region of Britannia, and generally there will be one hidden in each of the remaining dungeons.
First you place the spell's scroll in the circle, then the reagents. The reagents for each spell are listed in the spellbook right below the spell's name.
Casting Ignite on the Binding Ritual Circle brings up a prompt asking for the spell's verbal component.
If we got all of the reagents and the incantation correct, we'll have learned the first-circle spell Lightning Bolt.
There are three spells we can learn right now.
Now we're finished, so it's time to say goodbye to Britain. We pack our bags, flip off the town watch and make for the docks.
: She's a fine looking vessel.
: The fastest ship in the Guild's fleet.
: So, let's get down to business, shall we?
: So, do you have one of the runes?
: As a matter of fact, I do. Is this proof enough that I'm the Avatar?
: Yes, it is, Avatar. Come, I'll take you to Buccaneer's Den to meet my employer.
Next time, we begin Chapter 4
