Looks like I fixed my problem by reinstalling Windows again and installing all the updates/service packs before installing anything else. The main reason that caused Video Studio 12 to crash was a nasty issue with conflicting C++ runtime versions.
By the way, I finally found a .pdf of the cluebook according to which I missed a secret room in this update but no worries, I'll show it off in the next one. Also, the Mokpo thing sounds like fun, I'll definitely be including that.
