Part 48: Chapter 5B (4)

Langrey joins as a Guest at level 35. He's barely equipped though, having only a single piece of armour, though it's a good one (a Supreme Garb). His Alchemy Wand isn't even as strong as the Deluge Scepter in Chapter IV. To help make up for it his spell is Dark Savior, which is powerful.

Langrey starts off useful as least, coming in with a complement of spells out the wazoo, including all six elemental spells, Heal, Suspend Motion and both Might and Spell Reinforce. He lacks Guard Reinforce and Normalize, but aside from that he's pretty much fully decked out for anything you'd want to use him for.

I call it Team 'I'm Right and You're Wrong.' If Gwendal were here I might have been able to make Team Glorious Bastards.

For those keeping track, this is the fourth battle in a row without saving - Chapter 5B is the longest chapter in the game. It's also the highest Sin quota in the game, but there are enough enemies to garner them from and none of them are as tough as the last two battles.

The enemies are all Artolian soliders, so no weaknesses or resistances.

The Caduceus is just delicious. And I can understand using this track on Lord Rainbow, but these fodder?

Oh those poor fools.

Langrey Soul Crush (Dark Savior)
Oh Langrey.

Archer damage: still negligible.

Having more than one Sorcerer isn't often that great since you won't have enough weapons to go around, but the animations can look pretty neat with more than one spell flying about.

Three characters is just enough to get a Soul Crush chain off, and enemies here usually won't need more than two to get full Sin.

Two Sorcerers also means double the amount of Suspend Motions and Reinforces you can pull off in a single turn. Since Langrey doesn't have Dash, we might as well put his AP to good use anyway.

There are a few enemies just below us, so Liese lures them in with Dark Savior.

I was hoping to Silence the Sorcerer, but no dice. I think endgame most Sorcerers are immune to Silence.

Langrey also buffs Wylfred.

Aaand that's annoying. I really wish Langrey had Normalize, it would save me from having to burn Elixirs, which are limited in supply.

These two get taken out quickly.

Langrey manages to be snide even in his compliments.

Stop doing that!

Hooray! Junk.

Liese decides to surprise the Sorcerer across the water with an attack.

That... is not a welcome return gift.

And that's worse.

Ah screw all of these punks.

The Warrior is the leader and is thus immune to paralysis.

Langrey even goes, 'To your knees!' when he casts a menu spell. It's pretty neat.

All that's left is to wrap the rest up.

I don't really use Dark Savior, but it's got pretty good range and targetting. It can still miss if you knock the enemy away or too far up, but overall it's got probably the third best range out of the spells, falling behind Sacred Javelin and Fire Storm.

It's all cleanup from here.

We didn't actually need the 200% rewards - Natalia gets the Imanotsurugi again but I don't think we'll have much use for her, and nobody can use the Osafune. The Material Earring for 150% Sin is new though - it can only be worn by females and raises their health by 10%. This means Phiona more or less has the best health in the game.

Well crap.

Flash of white, then
