Part 55: Turn 58 - 5th August 1944
Another attempt is made to force us off the beaches.
They hit us with elite Panzer units, backed up by their elite paratroopers. We cut them down.
It's a bloodier fight in the newly taken ground, but we hold.
This fighting is heavy on the tanks, but I think we can take it.
The cities get a lighter bombing this week.
We keep on advancing.
We can't have them pulling their troops out now, can we!
It is not my main thrust any more though, and it shows.
We can still make some ground.
These guys fail to get the hint that the French want them gone!
The South Africans link up with the Italians.
I calmly encircle four regiments.
Armoured units now under the command of the US V Corps reach the Siegfried Line, and find it undefended.
The leg infantry are still trying to catch up.
Its still a war of manoeuvrer, so not much fighting going on.
