War in the West

Part 75: Turn 78 - 23rd December 1944

The Germans do not mess around when taking out the 101st – but they have had to abandon their front line for a time.

Yes, this would be ridiculous in a none turn based game.

Just how realistic do you think a breakout is? Do you not know where the front line is now?

I'm forced back a bit at the flanks.

The 101st was a heavy loss, and all my fault, I misjudged a river crossing, snow and long supply lines. They also miss jumped deeper into enemy territory, but being on target wouldn't have helped much.

They may, however, have left Berlin open.

I concentrate the ground strikes.

The heavy snow limits my effectiveness – and may prevent me from taking Berlin this year.

It's night night time.

The cowardly SS put up next to no fight.

The other hex had 13,000 men in it.

So many captured tanks.

These guys hold out.

So I bring back two divisions to finish them off – I want these troops moving forwards!

Another port opens up.

We begin to push forward. Brandenburg is taken properly, but I can't get the hits in to break the line.

I clean up the trapped units.

I'm able to break their line to the north.

This is more to keep the Germans pinned than anything else.

Now we have to work for our kills.
There has been something of a miracle in the west.
