Part 108: Loki System, Vega Sector, Mission 1 (Gameplay)
It's an update on Friday, like I aim for! . The fact that I was aiming for *last* Friday shall be gently skipped over. Stuff happened. I decided to make this video on a whim for the Trackmania thread, my wisdom teeth decided that a pain-free existence was overrated, and there was football to watch...also, this is a long mission and I am a bit lazy. I'd say the Trackmania video and the teeth are probably about 3 days out of the 7 I am late and the football/length of mission (see below)/laziness takes the remainder.4th September 2669, Loki System (Mission 1), Vega Sector

Kills this mission: 23. This mission is faintly ridiculous, close to the hardest in the game though probably not quite. On Nightmare, the Dralthi wave at Nav 2 is terrifying, with a massive swarm of missiles to evade, rather than the cannon fodder it was here. On Ace it's the two waves of Vaktoths that are tricky, especially if (like me) you get lazy dealing with Corvettes and end up without any front armour. The difference between Vaktoths and every other Kilrathi fighter type on Ace is very large, and is perhaps best illustrated by the amount of time it took Cobra and I to deal with them:
Darkets: 8 fighters, 1 minute 51 seconds. 13.9 seconds per fighter.
Dralthi: 8 fighters, 3 minutes 44 seconds. 28.0 seconds per fighter.
Strakha: 4 fighters, 51.6 seconds. 12.9 seconds per fighter.
Vaktoths: 10 fighters, 14 minutes 38 seconds (this was unsuprisingly edited down in the video). 1 minute 28 seconds per fighter.
This is actually longer for one Vaktoth than it took to kill the Corvette - and the Vaktoths were what I was using missiles on. Part of the reason is the larger wave size requiring more defensive flying, but the Dralthi came in a wave of six as well. Part of it might just be me - I still think there must be a faster way to deal with Vaktoths than what I do, but nothing I tried this time came off (that's part of the reason the update was late). But I think most of it's the game.
Ship of the day:
Is on hiatus. There are a couple of new designs yet to show off, which will happen when we meet them, but we're pretty much out of ships now. There's lots more missions than ships in WCIII. I guess I could do "munition of the day" or something if people were desperate for more information about guns and missiles, but I don't really think it's worth it.
