Part 13: Page 13: Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea
Page 13: Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the SeaChocobo Village
So what better way to unwind from Jelly Jiggler than relaxing on the beach?
: (If you manage to pull off a high score, you might receive a pop-up card! We have to make sure that Boco isn't able to play any of them!)
Honestly, I would have preferred to not play some of those microgames.
: (Unlocking them releases pop-up cards, as well as the chocobo cards which have Boco's friends trapped inside. If Boco gets hold of this info, Miss Irma will have us hung out to dry! Loose beaks sink airships!)
I'm getting this weird feeling I'm visiting an area I should have been in already. Huh.
Hey, it's Carbuncle! You're a happy guy!
: I'm Carbuncle, the spirit of glee! Did you know that happiness grows bigger and bigger if you share it with others? So I'm going to share something with you! Take this card!
Thanks, buddy! You're a good friend! unlike jarro, that fuck
: Boco, do you feel happy now? No matter what happens, you can always find happiness inside yourself if you look hard enough! See you later, friend!
Bye, friend!
Some of you might have noticed this guy earlier, when I was playing Bubble Bounce. Let's talk to him now.
: (I used too much bleach when I washed my snazzy jailbird uniform, and now it's completely white! When Miss Irma finds out, she'll have me chopped, grilled, and teriyaki-fied! What am I gonna do!?)
: (I'm in a pickle here, man! I'll totally make it worth your while. Scout's honor!)
Sure, you seem like a trustworthy person.
GAH! Jesus, you're ugly.
: The oceans are stirring with schools of fish gone berserk, and the treetops are brimming with birds singing an eerie tune. What did you say!? Bebuzzu has already awakened!?
Nice to meet you, sir. Is Judy nearby?
: In the midst of my journeys across the globe for fame and fortune, I heard a rumor about this island and a book. The tales warned that the book must not be opened under any circumstances! It appears someone got to it first... But this is all my fault! If only I had applied my makeup correctly on that fateful day!
Okay, we have two options here. I'm going to go with 'Punch is actually female' to avoid the awkward questions I would have otherwise.
: That would be boring, you say? Ha! I think maybe somebody plays too many video games!
(You might count Cid's games as video games, though)
: Well, since I did come all this way, I think I'll give you some backup! You are a pretty cute one, you know... Those four treasure chests there are yours for the taking--if you can get them open, that is! Ha-ha!
So hey, those awkward questions I mentioned? Really glad I don't have them.
Boco is adorable. No arguments there.
Anyway, let's grab those chests...
Fuck.
: You want to know about the bud-shaped treasure chest? I bagged that valuable treasure after finally catching up to Ramuh on his mighty thundercloud!
None of the other chests open either. I'm guessing it has something to do with the books...
Anyway, this is the last place we have to check out. What do you want to bet...
Beneath the Horizon
That change in music tells us this leads to the next area.
Well, that answers the question of how we're going underwater.
And welcome to our next area. I'll give you three guess as to what the crystal associated with this place is.
And let's rescue our friend Rose from that card.
: So who is the Prince Charming who has finally rescued this damsel in distress...? How silly of me! I should have known it was you, Boco. I had a dream about a kind and strong chocobo who came to save me! I want to tell you more about my dreams. I'll be waiting by the cliff...
Well okay then. The cliffs are the only place we haven't explored, so we'll get to that.
This area has three exits - two stairs on the left and right, and a large door to the south. The stairway to our left is blocked by rubble...
...and this door won't open.
The only option we have is to go up these stairs.
This island lets us talk to... hey, wait a second! How did Rose breathe underwater? She doesn't have a magical Unicorn to help her breathe.
: Chu become shtronger, I'll fight my way through fire an' water...
Sure.
: Glad chu have you along!
Fiddle de Chocobo
Boggling Bridges
This game..... it's not hard, but it's not fun either. The controls are a little wonky, especially with the lack of place to rotate the bridges. It doesn't help that some of the bridges can only be accessed from one direction or another, and the cheese pops up randomly.
Eh, not my favorite. That title is still held by Blazing Blocks, but I'm a huge fan of Match-3 games, so your opinion may vary.
: Thankth chu your help, I've churprithed even mythelf! Take thith!
: That wath the greateth quetht ever! I want you chu have my thpecial card!
Thanks, Chip. How the hell did you even make it here, anyway?
Oh joy. I recognize that book cover.
Win Place Show Chocobo!
This book really isn't that bad. At least, not as bad as the previous.
Prelude
Shiva and Ifrit: Leaping for Luchilles Prologue
Although there had been a time when Shiva and Ifrit argued about anything and everything, the two had finally made amends and became the best of friends. They had also come to terms with each other's strength. "Ice is incredibly useful! Nothing is better when storing food."
"No, fire is much more useful. Food is so much more delicious when cooked!"
"But ice glimmers so beautifully in the light! Nothing can compare."
"But without fire, there wouldn't be any light! Surely fire is most beautiful."
Ifrit grew a bit perturbed by how Shiva was responding to his comments. "You do know that when complemented, it's only polite to accept it, right?"
"I was just trying to be nice!"
"Just be quiet! Ice is best!"
"No, fire is best!"
"Let's settle this with a contest again! The winner gets to decide who is best, once and for all. This time, we'll use those travelers who have come for luchilles."
"Sounds good to me!"
"It won't be so easy this time, though. These travelers have magical cloaks that allow them to fly!"
"No problems here!"
And so the contest began yet again between Shiva and Ifrit...
30 points instead of 40? Sold!
Move de Chocobo
Leaping for Luchilles Trial Mode
That was nowhere near as bad as the first book. It took me a little bit to figure out the trick to aiming and launching, and it's going to take a while to get used to it. Fun fact: both lasans and luchilles are items in FFVII used to raise Chocobos.
I didn't even bother to to try to get more than 30 points. Didn't want to waste time, after all.
Victory
Reward one, for 5 points, unlocks Versus levels 1-3 as well as the card.
Two more cards for 10 points and 20 points, respectively.
For 30, we get an epilogue.
Prelude
Shiva and Ifrit: Leaping for Luchilles Epilogue - Friendship
The travelers easily dodged the incongruous assault from Shiva and Ifrit and made away with all the luchilles. "I can't believe it..."
"All our precious fruit..." The two spirits wept in sadness.
Then, something truly miraculous happened! The teardrops of Shiva and Ifrit transformed into sparkling jewels! Ifrit's red tears came to be known as rubies. Rubies are the stones of passion, gaining this trait from the intense feeling of losing the luchilles. Shiva's tears came to be known as sapphires. Sapphires are stones of sincerity, reflecting emotions not of conflict, but of cooperation. The two offered each other the jewels as a sign of their everlasting friendship. Thanks to the sapphires, Ifrit was able to keep from being so hot-headed all the time. Thanks to the rubies, Shiva was able to become a bit more enthusiastic.
Aren't sapphires just blue rubies?
Woo! One chest unlocked!
Next time: Tag Team.
