Part 65: Rod Breaking Central

Chapter 60: Rod Breaking Central

I know I opened this up a while ago but I didn't feel like it until I did the rest of the dungeon.

This is the Lethe Court, in a lovely aqua shade.

Now I have 2189!

I've noticed something. Most of the random encounters here use react: scripting to get in the last laugh.

Case in point, Hades.

He's a big douche, but at 50,000 experience he's the highest yield in the game.

Ironclad is also a big douche. He uses Rocket Punch all the time and responds to any damage with Takedown, a defense-ignoring attack.

So I'm avoiding random encounters via cowardice.

This place isn't that interesting to look at, being exactly the same as the Last Floor of the Rift and all.

How clever.

Oh hey, it's a boss before the real boss!

BOSS FIGHT: GUARDIAN, LAUNCHER x2, WAVE CANNON

C'mon, hurry up!

I wanna get a turn before he does!

So, yeah. The Guardian is immune to damage as long as the other 3 parts are alive. They all absorb lightning as a sort of "Fuck you!" so it's time for Flare sword.

The Wave Cannon shoots two Surge Beams when it finishes charging but who cares? The whole conglomerate falls apart way too quickly to be a threat.

WHAM! I love Bahamut sometimes.

Burtz's !Rapidfire tears huge chunks out of anything it hits. Sure, the Guardian is a dead hit, but the rest is losing health fast.

Wave Cannon falls, doing the whole dying fade-out only to reveal that no part of the Guardian's sprite actually vanishes. I guess they forgot the explosion animation.

Krile's confused and Faris is old. The same mix cures both.

The last launcher falls after another Bahamut.

Now that the Guardian is vulnerable, Burtz tears into it.

Its Delta Attack petrifies Krile. Lenna would cure it with a mix but for whatever fucking reason this mix re-targets despite curing petrification.

Esuna doesn't have such issues.

Burtz doesn't care about this drama and smacks the Guardian for another 32K.

And the Guardian is done.

Take one more step and...

He has some monologue about stupid things.

The point is he's the guy who made the Void and required splitting a world in two just to shut up.

I'm going to murder him.

THE ONLY GUY LEFT TO KILL: ENUO

Enuo has the only unique sprite in the entire bonus dungeon. He also uses Neo-Exdeath's background and moving around thing, so it lags like a motherfucker here too.

His offense is... depressing.

Set-up complete, time to bash his face in!

His hands act as fake targets for !Rapidfire. Of course, Enuo is such a wuss compared to Omega Mk II and Neo Shinryu that !Rapidfire missing so much isn't an issue.

When !Rapidfire does hit, even if once, it takes a massive chunk of his health.

Faris dualcasts Holy for about 13,000 each turn she gets.

Krile gets a bunch of hits on him with a lucky !Rapidfire.

Now he's in his second form. His hands aren't targets anymore, but he grows a constant shell/protect and uses stronger magic.

Sadly, he's still a total bitch.

Danse Macabre is a fancy zombie spell. It doesn't matter much because of how air-tight my defenses are at this point.

White Wind saves the day again!

!Rapidfire has been a staple of fights for ages, hasn't it?

Look at those spells, and he still can't do anything meaningful!

Dualcasting Holy some more.

Krile is a zombie and KOed, but it doesn't make a difference!

His Hurricane hits Burtz, but I have 83% of the world's Elixirs sitting in my inventory.

Almagest downs Krile 'cause I forgot Shell, but I have Arise and !Mix. How can he harm me?

Faris casts Holy some more.

Reaper sword hits Burtz, but his Ribbon protects from instant death.

I bet you're wondering "Why isn't he dead already?" or "Why hasn't Burtz used !Rapdifire?"

Because I had something planned. From the start of this fight, I have been counting Enuo's HP, getting him to the right number to make this fight end with a bang.

And there is only one choice for that.

Rods broken: 23

Anyway, after that, the party gets dumped in the entrance with a new crystal.

Necromancer would be an interesting job if it wasn't for what you have already beaten to get it.

This kid pops out and textwalls us about the Necromancer job and asks us to kill a monster or something.

After ten thousand years, I'm free! Time to conquer Earth!

Necromancers learn Dark Artes by killing specific monsters. This Mindflayer teaches Drain Touch, for example. The Dark Artes are okay multi-target damage, but Bahamut does so much more in that category.

The Cloister of the Dead is now open, but it's nothing more than old bosses given slight power boosts and redirected at us. There is nothing to win and the monsters are pitiful compared to the bastards I've already killed.

There is no one left to beat up. The entire world has been soundly thrashed by A doofus, a princess, another princess, and a pirate princess. The bad guy was smashed, then the even eviller bad guy was smashed. All the robots and dragons have been crushed, and I stand on the apex of the world, with all the power I could possibly have.

And that is when I am done with Final Fantasy 5: Advance.
