Mission #25: The Melee in the Taipei

The party needs to make their way to the underground tunnel that connects Taiwan to the DHZ, somehow, this has led to them marching in their wanzers through Taipei, capital of Taiwan.

: We shouldn't waste time planning. Lukav might get away.
Yeah, planning is for nerds. I mean, think of one good general known for his planning.
: Futai is up ahead. We'll rush through to save time.
: No... I don't think so. Look at the radar.
: The radar's picking up multiple large weapon platforms...I'm picking up tanks, too. They know where we're headed.

The fuck is that? That's what we're fighting now? I'm not sure if I should be laughing or crying.
: What the heck is that!? That's cheating, dude... Who do you think you are!?
: Hey at least they know we're badass! It's showtime!

Kazuki, Ryogo, Yun and Marcus get the call. In retrospect, I should have taken Emma because this map is much more suited to missiles than melee, as there are a ton of buildings that get in the way. Those daddy long-leg wanzers have missiles and machine guns. They're a pain, but really only because of how hard they are to get in shotgun range of. There's some tanks too, but, well, the day that I fear tanks is the day this LP dies.

Case in point.

This is about all Marcus does in the mission. There's just no good way for him to get into melee range of basically any enemy, so he's mainly effective at shielding his teammates, or 'bros', as he calls them, from harm.

Yun shows off the biggest danger in this mission: attrition. She's made it into attack range, but is already down to one arm.

Ah, tanks, the Pittsburgh Pirates of Front Mission 3. They may once have been effective, but that time is long past, and now you just wonder why they even bother.

Ryogo isn't doing much better than Yun. One more machine burst from the enemy, and he's basically screwed. Still, those spider-wanzers are living on borrowed time. They don't have the HP necessary to last in an extended fire-fight.

Well, Psion, let's see what you're design can do...

A Double Assault into a RoF I combo, eh?

Yes, that will do, that will do.

Ryogo, with his arm hanging on by a thread, finishes the mission.

Only having one shield on the entire team probably had to do with this ranking. Ryogo gets MVP for his scrappy performance.

: ...yeah, I know.
: You think you did somethin' awful?
: If we hadn't come, these people wouldn't have been killed.
: But we still have to catch Lukav, or more people will die. So focus on that. Keep your mind clear, or you'll wind up dead...
You know, dead like all of those civilians that just got killed because of us.
: ...Yeah.
