MS Saga: A New Dawn

by Tobias Grant

Part 3

Katz gets the Heat Hawk, and Fritz gets his old Iron Axe.

Back to Angelia!

Forgot to show it off, but here is the Unicorn branch in Angelia.

That's nice.

Naturally, since we're the only ones with Mobile Suits within a 100-mile radius of here that hasn't tried to burn the village down to the ground, he asked us to solve the problem.

Naturally, I refused.

You have my attention...

Fort Verde is directly East of Angelia.

There are about 5 of these encounters that we have to deal with.

This is where the game starts to throw enemy mobile suits at you.

The Prototype Zaku will die to a single hit from the Heat Hawk. The Zaku-II proved to be a slightly hardier foe.

Zaku Tanks! They're no real threat. They can't counter-attack, so you can hit them with Melee attacks to your heart's content.

Fritz learns the first buff of the game. Buffs in this game are ESSENTIAL to beating some of the more difficult fights in the game.

Hacking tools are used to open locked chests.

Katz here scores a critical hit! I think critical hits, in addition to dealing more damage, also ignores enemy armor.

An extra bit of armor goes right to Katz' GM.

The last group (3 Zaku-II) is quickly dispatched.

Thanks for jinxing us Fritz!

...That is one pissed off looking Zaku.

Too bad it's pilot looks like a complete tool.

well fuck me sideways. we're boned.

Oh hey, thanks Masked Dude.

Sure it is.

I love this battle, simply because it's there to give you a glimpse of what lies in the future.

Hal here is far more powerful than we are at this point. in addition to his Gelgoog, which is equipped with a Beam Rifle and Beam sword. he also has a few useful techniques.

Such as this. Hacks are the debuffs in this game.

That said, Katz and Fritz are completely useless in this fight. the best they can do is keep each other alive, and plink away at the Gouf's health from range. Do NOT attack him in melee unless you think you can get away with it (if an enemy is going to take an 'Etc' action, they won't counter attack. So it's an excellent time to break out the melee attacks.)

The Gouf can also bust out it's own Boost attacks. It's best to defend when he's about to do this.

Let's try out one of Hal's Boost attacks.

Would have been a lot more effective if the Gouf wasn't defending this turn...

It's also possible to inflict Overheat to the Gouf with that attack, so if that happens, the battle is pretty much over. I wasn't so lucky. Overheat is like Paralysis. it greatly reduces what actions you can take in battle.

In a moment of negligence on my part, Katz actually got shot down. Thankfully my inventory is loaded with Regeneration kits, so this is just a minor setback.

It takes a while, but the Gouf eventually falls.

Fritz learns his second boost. Double shield negates all damage aimed at him, but he has to be equipped with two arm guards to use it.

That's what they all say.

Now, I'm just going to go ahead and spoil Hal's real identity.

I mean, it's painfully obvious who he really is.

Are you ready?

His real name is Casval Rem Deikun.

I know, they weren't even trying to hide his real identity.

Later Casval.

Back to Angelia!

Also, Katz gets the shiny new Heat Sword, and the Heat Hawk goes to Fritz.

You know, if I wasn't cheating my ass off, this would have been a nice chunk of change. As it stands though, this is chump change.

Let's go!

On our way to Eisengrad, Fritz' paranoia rears it's ugly head.

Oh hey, nice to see you again.

We've finally got ourselves a full party!

She's also already got a nice suit for herself.

Aeon is obviously a ranged fighter. She also learns some very nice techniques later on.

I give her the Iron Axe since she had the room, and continue on to Eisengrad.

Just need to pass through Fort Verde.

Very nice!

Eisengrad is East of Fort Verde. It's also pretty big, so it's hard to miss.

Charge!

The moment he heard Katz' name, he flew into a rage and attacked!

These guys are in Guardian's, which are just customized versions of the Zaku-II. Stronger, but not threateningly so.

Fritz takes a bit of a beating, though.

It didn't take long to take them both out.

Just past the gates, is a green encounter.

We're just that awesome.

Once in the city proper, the group splits up.

Eisengrad is a very large town. However, most of it is blocked off right now, so the amount of places we can visit is rather limited.

An Ecap (S) is hidden over here.

Yeessssssss.

Look at all those weapons...

I bought 3 Arm Machine Guns, 3 Bazookas, 6 Beam Picks, and one Small Cannon.

Up here is blocked off by guards.

Here is the Mobile Suit HQ that Casval wanted to meet us at. We'll be saving this place for last.

Let's check out the hangars. There are two places we can go to from this entrance.

The first is, obviously, the Hangar, where we can check out our Mobile Suits.

The second is the Mini-G system. Here we can use our Ecap (S) and make some very nice gear.

I made two Power Device II's, two Sensor Plus II's, and three HP Parts.

The Power Devices and Sensor Plus parts increase the Melee and Range attributes on our mechs, respectively, the HP parts just increase our max HP by 50.

Next door to the MS HQ is the item shop.

after buying 99 of the available consumables, I bought 10 Stealth Systems (decreases chance of running into low level enemies) and two Acid Guards (50% chance to resist Acid [this game's version of poison]).

Past the shop is a cutscene that reveals a little bit of Fritz' backstory, which I just skip.

There's a hacking tool hidden away up here.

Once I get myself a Black Ticket, this guy will become my best friend.

With nothing else to do, it's time to go into the MS HQ.

ROBOT ROLL CALL

MS-06V Zaku Tank

First appearance: Mobile Suit Gundam (0079)

The Zaku tank is the horrible love-child of the Magella tank and a Zaku-II. They were created when the Zeon ground forces found themselves in desperate need of new mobile suits to replace their losses. The Zaku Tank was mostly relegated to Artillery or Support roles.

MS-07B Gouf

First appearance: Mobile Suit Gundam (0079)

The Gouf, in the words of the legendary Ramba Ral, is no Zaku, boy. No Zaku. It is a Mobile suit designed for close-quarters combat. It has two built-in weapons, the heat rod, and 5 machine guns built into the left hand's fingers. While it is a CQC monster, it's ranged capabilities are somewhat poor.

MS-14A Gelgoog

First appearance: Mobile Suit Gundam (0079)

The Gelgoog is the first non-amphibious Zeon mobile suit that could use Beam weaponry, and was just as powerful as, if not superior to, the RX-78-2 Gundam. Unfortunately for Zeon, it came into the war way too late to change Zeon's fate.
