Part 37: Technological comparison of the United Republic and the Nations ca. 2860

For those who are curious, a technological comparison of the United Republic and the Nations:

Spaceflight systems (drives, hulls, and fuel cells): the United Republic has Isozaki Metal and techniques for building reinforced interior bulkheads on ships; the Sakkra are stuck with basic titanium alloy. Both have comparable drive and power storage technology, and the Sakkra have implemented advanced damage control methods borrowed from the United Republic.
Sensors, seekers, and targeting computers: the Nations have neutron scanners and friend-or-foe discriminating seekers on their missiles that allow retargeting a new hostile if they lose lock on their initial target; the United Republic has high-powered active sensors and targeting algorithms to take advantage of the better data resolution from their active sensors.
Weapons: the Nations have ship-mounted charged particle beams that might be marginally better than lasers, and use lasers as a standard for ground combat; the United Republic has naval coilguns and rail weaponry for ground combat. Missiles and bombs are comparable.
Politics and espionage: the Nations have unmodified baseline espionage technology, a standard feudal government, and poor skill at espionage; the United Republic has neural scanners, an advanced, reformed democratic constitution, and 'inalienable civil rights' that get in the way of internal security about as much as the Nations' general lousiness at espionage would get in the way of their offensive espionage.
Economics and infrastructure: the Nations can build orbital naval bases and surface force garrisons, and endure crowding and underground building that more than makes up for their lack of arcology technology, and that's it; the United Republic has a huge array of economic and infrastructural technologies the Nations don't even begin to match.
