Part 22: Okami Artbook 1

Characters

Mrs Orange

"Mr Orange's wife, she likewise holds a strong faith that she has had all throughout her life. She is normally a quiet sort, but, according to testimony from Mr Orange, she can be "more frightening than an evil demon" when angered. Her hobby is to create cherry blossom rice cakes, and when she loses herself in the creation process, she is as unstoppable as a mighty demon."

Sake Brewer Kushi

"The young maiden responsible for brewing the village sake. She has a gentle personality, but her spirit is valiant...Kushi's sake is famous for its quality and she has many buyers from lands both near and far."

Great Warrior Susano

"Desecendant of a great Warrior...though a coward at heart, Susano constantly felt the weight of his famous and hounoured bloodline."

Travelling Merchant

"A travelling merchant who is roaming the country peddling his quality wares. He has many acquaintances in the various areas of Nippon, and whether his customer is human, or wolf, he treats them with the same great service."

Enemies

Red Imp

"Appears when the moon shines brilliantly in the night sky. He plays a lute and dances as if possessed. He is an indiscriminate alcohol lover, and his skin is constantly flushed a bright red. He is a higher ranking demon than the Green Imp, but cutting his lute strings is enough to make him disappear."

Concept Art

Susano

His hairstyle is based on "Prodigy" among other things, and his arms were modeled after Popeye's. His face was modeled after a high school PE teacher, by giving him a robust look. To add a touch of "divinity" to him (he is after all, Amaterasu's brother in the myths), spirals were added to his arm hair to parallel the spirals on Ammy.

Kushi

In the myth, she is turned into a comb, thus they gave her a combed shaped hair style. They also piled rice bags on her head (later turned to barrels). On the sleeves of her kimono are images of rice plants. They originally designed her to be more plain looking, but were told to make her more attractive.

Mr Orange

He was intially designed as a typical old man, but they found that boring, so they descided to add an orange to his head. They said that he considers himself something of a sacrifice to the tree (not a blood sacrifice obviously, otherwise that'd be a blood orange on his head). It set the standard design of "playful creation" for all the characters that followed after.

Mrs Orange

"I wonder when Mrs Orange started to wear a clementine on her head? Perhaps when they got married? I love that she hums while doing the laundry."
