Part 14
Right, my overall plan has changed - I want to seize New Mexico and then tap into the Confederate States before they hit some sort of critical mass from eating up Texas and the Great Plains Federations.
The attack directions:
As you can tell, we have some new veteran units and some damaged units. Those three new artillery pieces at the bottom are the recent acquisitions.
They're the most expensive artillery units, but they're not quite as good as MERLs; they do have more staying power, given their higher armour value, which has been the number one problem with our old rocket-based artillery.
Good times to be had in New Mexico.
Here we go. Hey, there's a New Mexican landmark to ravage!
And there it is, up close and personal, whatever it is.
And just outside of Roswell..
Metal up front, less metal behind.
Alamogordo does not escape the notice of our Air Butchers.
And we're scouted on the first turn by some partisans, notice the chaparrals taking their repairs.
On my turn, I take the opportunity to drop some ordinance on Rudioso.
And bombard Albuquerque with our green heavy artillery and the apache.
With the landmark destroyed and half of Albuquerque burned to the ground, I send my forces North and burn Estancia to the ground after they so helpfully repaired my chaparrals.
Nothing happens in my off turn, so I keep pushing North until I hit Fort Collins, which is a pretty crappy fortress if you ask me. Since there were some enemies there, I hit the white phosphorus and the city is consumed. A stealth bomber and some quick attacks finish the garrison.
At the end of my turn, I deploy my CAP, just in case.
And at the start of my next turn, Santa Rosa goes from this:
to this:
I don't want those bastards from the Great Plains to use their stolen UFO technology, and besides I'm Pro Human, so we attack the crashed UFO at Roswell with no success.
In revenge, I attack Roswell and finish off Fort Collins.
Here's Fort Collins after the phosphorus and artillery bombardment:
As we pushed into New Mexico, we stumbled upon some more partisans and a humvee. Nothing survived.
And when all was said and done, the Great Plains Federation resigned. They really had no hope of offering any threat.
Which didn't stop the Great Plains from attacking the Dakotas, which was just outright silly on their part but they hate me more than Texas for some reason. The Dakotas are almost as contested as New York.
You know the score. Also note that battle damage carries over between fights, hence this map is a wreck to begin with.
On the first turn the enemy does nothing while we move along route 12 into Minneapolis and St Paul.
Our humvee scout in the city comes under attack.
and again until it dies.
We respond in kind.
And they resign their pointless battle. I think the PC thought I had more assets in New Mexico and that my defense force wouldn't outnumber and dwarf what they sent to attack me with. A risky gamble that turned out to be all hat with very little cowboy.
And when all was said and done, at the start of the next turn, I purchased me an A10 Warthog.
