War in the East

by Grey Hunter

Part 49

In the north, we make a few large scale assualts, which send the Russians fleeing with heavy losses.

These attacks shatter the Russian front line, and while we are only able to advance a hex along the lower section of the line, the Russians lose 32,000 men here alone!

9th Army is still to weak to attack. A lot of their units are at 50-60% TOE, and still need a lot of reinforcements before we can make any real attacks.

Its a similar story for the bulk of the 2nd and 4th Armies.

In the south, near Voronezh we do make some advances and trap many more units. Three Divisions and two tank brigades now await our pleasure.

I start in the south by eliminating the trapped units, the Tank Corps is a little disappointing.

East of Voroshilovgrad, I use a multi formation armour push to cut off a huge number of Russuan troops.

This includes three tank and one cavalry corps! We then fail by one hex to seal off another group of enemy forces!

I then punch across the Don with 1st Panzer army. These troops can head south or turn east as needed.

I continue to pressure Krasnodar, but these men are not going to do much more than tie up enemy units.

A lot of Russian movements are interdicted around Moscow.

This is prelude it seems to a Russian assault on one of our units. The Russians throw two Tank Corps at our men, who are forced to retreat.

In the south, the Russians test the northern part of our advance.

They also use two Tank Corps to push back some of the advancing 4th Army troops – why do they have so many Tank Corps when they have so few tanks?

The return of the mud will slow our advance, but we have a large number of Russians to deal with before we can advance.

The Russians have taken heavy losses this week, nearly 100,000 men have become casualties in our latest assaults, and this is before we liquidate the pocket.

Our numbers drop a little, while the Russians don't even seem to notice the losses.

The replacements continue to flow in to the front line units.

And why then hell is Hitler playing with my officers! We're doing fantastically in the south! You've sacked Gudarian because one German unit retreated?

The fuel supplies continue to hold strong, and I'm not going to be burning much next week.

The advance is looking good, and that last tank factories will soon be mine!
