New units commanded:

quote:

Soviet elite infantry - Spetsnaz: These guys are yours to command in one mission only (unless you count the paratroopers, but they only share the name). Spetsnaz are the Soviet Unions elite special forces, trained and equipped to be deployed behind enemy lines in order to execute sabotage, assassinations and psy-ops.

quote:

Soviet heavy tank - T-80U: Heavy tanks are the battering ram of your army. Able to dish out and withstand enormous punishment, they can be used to smash enemy positions with brute force, using the long range of their guns to effectively engage all types of enemy armour. However, they are expensive to deploy, and extremely vulnerable to enemy helicopters or concealed infantry. Try to support your heavy tanks with AA-assets. Like all the other heavy tanks, it can also use HEAT (High Explosive Anti-Tank) warheads, effective against light and medium armour, and smoke launchers.

The T-80 is a further development of the T-64, armed with a 125mm main gun. Well armored, fast and deadly, it was easily the equivalent of any NATO armor and produced in great enough numbers to give U.S and NATO planners a great headache.

quote:

Soviet heavy anti-air - SA13 "Gopher": This unit does one thing, and one thing only, smash enemy air assets into pieces. Good range and high damage makes this the ultimate nightmare for enemy helicopters. It has smoke launchers for protection, but paltry armor and no means of defense against ground units.
