Part 12: Extras: Unused NATO units

NATO UNIT BONANZA BLOWOUT!

Ok, since we're soon done with NATO, I'd like to take this time to introduce some of the NATO units we won't have the chance of seeing in action, or to get a proper introduction to. All of these units, except one, belong to "types" we've seen before, just not their NATO-specific model. There are one or two more, but they will have to wait until their counterparts have been used in the campaign.

quote:

NATO light tank - FV101 "Scorpion": A British manufactured reconnaissance vehicle/light tank, armed with a 76mm gun. Like many vehicles of its class it was designed with air-portability in mind. It sports HESH (High Explosive Squash Head) rounds instead of the guided AT-missiles that the PT-76 and Sheridan are equipped with. These rounds are effective against most enemy armour.

quote:

NATO armoured transport - FV510 "Warrior": This is a British made modern IFV, armed with a 30mm automatic cannon much like the Bradley or the BMP-2. Capable of carrying a single squad of infantry in relative safety and then provide fire support. As its special ability the Warrior can switch out the main gun rounds for special AP-rounds that add extra punch against enemy armour for a limited time.

quote:

NATO repair tank - Chieftain AARV: Not much to add here, except that it is a repair and towing-vehicle based on the Chieftain chassi.

quote:

NATO medium artillery - FV432 mortar carrier: The FV432 is the predecessor to the more advanced FV510, and used for a variety of different missions. This configuration is equipped with an 81mm mortar firing from the roof-hatch. It can be loaded with white phosphorus rounds for extra effectivness against enemy personel.

quote:

NATO regular infantry: These are French soldiers, armed with FAMAS-rifles, Mistral MANPADS, and the LRAC-F1 rocket-launcher. They can launch underslung 40mm grenades at enemy infantry.

quote:

NATO AT-infantry: Armed with three LRACs at the cost of the Mistral and the LMG.

quote:

NATO sniper: Carrying the FR-F2 sniper rifle, this guy is just as deadly against enemy infantry as his U.S and Soviet counterparts.

quote:

NATO truck - TRM 4000: Unarmored and unarmed, this truck's sole purpose is to ferry infantry to positions. Very cheap, but also very vulnerable.
