Original Thread: After This Rare Went Kablooie, Now Watch Us Play Through Banjo-Tooie!

Introduction

Banjo-Tooie is an action adventure, platforming game with a heavy emphasis on item collection. The story revolves around a bear named Banjo, a bird named Kazooie, and their journey to stop their arch nemesis Gruntilda from sucking all the life out of the Isle O’ Hags.

It was developed by Rareware, Published by Nintendo on the N64 in 2001, and later re-released on Xbox 360 for the Xbox Live Arcade with High-Definition Graphics (The version that we’re using to make this Let’s Play!)

Banjo-Tooie is a direct sequel to the first game in the series simply titled “Banjo-Kazooie”. The story picks up directly from where the first game left off two years prior and sees Gruntilda, resurrected after falling off the top of her tower and she is, quite frankly, extremely pissed off. With her two sisters (Mingella and Blobbelda), Gruntilda sets out for her revenge against that pesky bear and bird duo- using new machines and even more violent tactics to get the job done. Banjo the bear and Kazooie, his loud-mouthed bird sidekick, will need to learn new moves and enlist help from friends- Both new and old alike. Unlike Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie is actually pretty damn dark in its story narrative, without it going over and becoming ridiculous.

This second game was essentially a massive overhaul of the first. Banjo-Tooie utilized the N64 Expansion Pak, giving the N64 8 megabytes of RAM as opposed to the original 4 MB allowing for Tooie to look just that little bit more impressive graphically. Unlike the previous two Rare titles (Donkey Kong 64 and Perfect Dark) Banjo-Tooie did not require the expansion pak! (thanks to Venomous for this correction!)

Most of the game mechanics were changed, 22 new moves were introduced on top of their moveset from the first game, and the size and scale of the levels made some areas from the first game look like a joke.

Despite all of this, Banjo-Tooie was only the 36th best-selling game on the system while its predecessor was the 10th. That being said Tooie was nominated for a BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts)

Alright enough of that, let’s get to it!
