Rise of the Phoenix: Tactical Update 10

A backhand blow from Caesar’s mace nearly split an enemy Marauder in half as it fell, showering the dusty badlands with shards of ceramic and steel. The machine twisted in midair, a strange pirouette that set it spinning on its back for a moment or two before it collapsed in a powerless heap. There weren’t many of them left now—but a sensible foe would have retreated long ago.

Acolyte Kreszentia coughed as more acrid smoke filled the Gallowglas’s cockpit. Something in her machine’s chest was burning. Probably one of the air filters. The blue Shadow Hawk she’d been targeting leapt away, practically mocking her machine’s mobility. If she’d still had her Lightray, she’d have taught these Capellans a thing or two about piloting. They were skilled, but they fought heartlessly. Like the stories she’d always heard of the Death Commandos or the Warrior Houses, completely heedless of their own losses in the single-minded pursuit of a goal. That the goal was Kreszentia’s destruction was little more than an irritation for her, at least at the moment. She’d grown close to Carlos’s men in the months they’d spent on the run, and still had at least one to help avenge.
