Part 140: Let's Learn Jobs: Ninja

Let's Learn Jobs: Ninja

Ninjas are great damage dealers armed with excellent utility and style, able to nimbly evade attacks while striking multiple times per turn. They aren't useful for every fight, but when their abilities work, they work very well.

Ninja is one of the original Final Fantasy jobs, originating in the first Final Fantasy as the upgraded form of the Thief. It has been a near constant since then, as the speediest damage dealer.

The distinctive headband is referred to by one source as a hitai-ate, forehead protector, but it doesn't appear to have been popularly associated with ninja until Naruto. Ninja techniques, called ninjutsu, were historically recorded on scrolls, and have become associated with the profession's mysterious and ancient allure.

Ninja are specialized individuals, focusing on speed, evasion, and strength. Their defenses involve evading attacks rather than wearing heavy loud weighty armor.

Blue are support abilities, red are skill abilities.

Using Utsusemi can trivialize several boss fights in the game. Combined with other evasion abilities, you can create a pretty lethal evasion tank.

More damage and twice the chance to show off your favorite weapon, provided you have two.

The men are wearing tight-fitted clothes prioritizing ease of movement over disguise. Tiz has a red oni demon mask, signifying his passionate, emotional self, while Ringabel has a blue one, signifying a more cool, calm persona. The women, as kunoichi, are dressed in something more passable for civilian clothing, all the better to be underestimated and get the jump on their opponents.

A better view of the twin blades tucked in the back of the women's obis:

And Ringabel's blue oni mask, which he wears jauntily to the side:

Truly, he is a man of many facets, some of which are bone-headed.
