Part 230: Sauro - Turns 64-65
Turn 64
In which not a damn thing happens.
- Schneeble/Sauromatia
Site searching turns up nothing. Random events give me a blight in one province (5% of the population dies and I lose 80 gold) and a grand market in another (I gain 600 gold). The blighted province is Feldan Forest, a border province with Pangaea that has 10 enemy candles, fewer than 3000 population, and one magic site that provides a single magic gem per turn. So really who cares about 5% population loss there?
Seriously, nothing else happened. No major fights this turn except for one between Hinnom and T'ien Ch'i. Have a map! Then we can hurry on to next turn.
Turn 65
In which we capture a fortress!
- Schneeble/Sauromatia
Site searching turns up nothing, and random events give me a handful of water gems. Last turn I posted a map. This turn how about I post a map with armies on it?
Highlights: Yes, there are a whole lot of maenads. I'm sure they will make somebody very unhappy someday, but I'm used to them by now. Also pictured: yet another battle was fought on T'ien Ch'i but it's still under siege and Feinne isn't dead yet. Tell us more, builds character!
- Feinne/T'ien Ch'i
Fortunately, one of us is capable of taking a barely-defended fort from an already-defeated player. It's me, by the way. I'm talking about myself.
There are no enemy commanders here, just a couple of river demons and a handful of militia who are so crippled by old age that they can't even flee properly (thanks, Burden of Time). It takes several rounds for my mercenary Ichtyids to run them down, and in that time the defensive towers shoot and kill a handful. Not that it matters, I only hired them to help with the siege and to be arrow fodder anyway. I did not renew their contract and they disappear.
Seriously, I don't know what builds character's problem is. He keeps fighting these ridiculous battles and everybody has it out for him while I've taken the entire southern half of my empire without having to fight anybody for it. I think the biggest battle down here was when I lost a bunch of crotchety old Androphag archers fighting a bunch of crotchety old Jaguar warriors.
Of course, if I don't stab him in the back and team up with Pangaea and Mictlan in the next two or three turns then he is going to have such a strong position that he will be effectively unstoppable. It's a good thing that I basically told Irony.or.Death that I'm committed to the original alliance ten turns ago and then started having doubts five turns ago and then didn't say anything to anybody about those doubts.
Yep, everything is gonna work itself out any turn now.
