Part 19: Vengeance, Half-Assed

"Sis, do we HAVE to go in here? The entire place reeks of corpses and mine gas."

"If you know another place we can get gunpowder, lead on."



"I'm beginning to understand why children are afraid of clowns."



"Oooh, shiny."



"Uh.. sis, the man-tiger and the clowns have joined forces. A bit of help here?

"Hold on, I'm working on it."

The Silver Tarot cards are an interesting item which produces a set of effects at random. Effects can range from doubling experience and gold from the battle, casting Defeat on all allies, or summoning a monster to battle the party. Think of the Deck of Many Things and you're getting close.



"Awful lot of water and natural pools scattered around this mine."



"I've been around a bit, and that's the biggest..."

"Sis, we're not even going there."



"Speaking of which, you might want to get that cough looked at."



"Sis, what do you make of this plant?"

"...."

"Dammit. Orin, pick her up. We're getting out of here."



"You know, you could have warned me or something. Some fortune teller you are."

"I'm a fortune teller, not a psychic. I can tell you what your future holds, not when a brick is about to fall on your head."



"Alright, try not to get killed this time."

"It's easy for you to say that, you're wearing plate armor!"



"Even the monsters are wearing plate armor. This is grossly unfair."



"Vengeance!"

"Yes Orin, vengeance. Soon."



"That's enough for us."



"How's that worked out for the other miners here? Can you help him any sis?"

"...."

"Sis?! Oh no.."



"Orin, did you pull us both out?"

"Yes. Vengeance?"

"Vengeance. Now."



"This should do... kind of handy that they put a dead end hallway right here next to the Counselor's room."




"Follow that cowardly weasel!"

"Finally!"



"How did we miss that before?"



"That didn't work before, and it's not going to now."

"Can we kill him while we're here?"

"Nah. I figure the people around the country will take care of it once we deal with Balzack."



"Truly, the worst guards ever."



"Edgar tried to destroy the Secret of Evolution which he accidentally discovered."



"I've seen better. Much better."

"How does.. evolution have anything to do with this?"

"Doesn't matter. Killing him now."




"Gotcha."



"HAHAHAHA! VENGEANCE!"



"That won't be a problem for much longer."



"You, Edgar's daughters! Come! I'll fight you."

"We weren't planning on dealing with two of them.."



"This is really, really not good."



"Uh...umm.. I surrender."



"How is it that we're not dead?

"Somehow, I expect Orin was involved."

"Cough, cough... I'm nearing my end. I wanted to escape from this country, but I ran out of strength."



"I think we can manage that."

"Is there anything we can do for you?"

"I'd say vengeance, but if you were very good at that you wouldn't be here."



"Great! And I think I see an open passageway.. I guess that old man just wasn't able to walk out or he'd have left."

"Well, the guards here are pretty terrible."



"Although I may have misjudged them a bit."



"Orin! No!"

"Come on, if they didn't kill us when we attacked the new king he'll probably be okay just trying to break out of jail."



"The cabins are downstairs."

"You really can't leave soon enough for us, thanks."



"Anywhere but here is good enough for me."

"I'm starting to get excited. Endor sounds fantastic."



"That's not quite the story... it's kind of the reverse, actually."



"A rich merchant, you said? Interesting.."



"We won't get in the way, I promise."



"I don't know what you've been through, but cheer up."

"Good things will come if you live..."

"It could be worse.. although not by much."



"Well, we saw this coming. You know, how did all of these people get boarding passes too?"



"Until he's old enough to bear agony and despair..."

"Well, at least he can't swear revenge against a mine unless he's completely insane."



"You'll understand someday, I'm sure. Now, mind your sister."



"That's no problem at all. I don't know why you asked us, but let's get out of here."




"I don't think I've ever been so sick in my entire life..."

"Look on the bright side, sis. I think you've lost about 5 pounds on this trip."




And so it ends. This chapter is very interesting in that it has a very non-standard team, starts to bring up the idea of all these people from the chapters coming together, and ends with the sisters failing in their objective. This is a substantial difference from the first three chapters, which end with their respective heroes generally successful in their endeavors.
