Part 69: Post 61: In which we beat up Satan or something.
Post 61: In which we beat up Satan or something.
On to our final adventure!
What about our adventure after this one?
Shush! We don't know about that one yet!
The hell we don't! Look at all of these Shards we have lying around.
Quiet! Adventure time. Now let's get on our flying rock and go beat up Satan or whatever.
Well, it's all downward from here. The place goes against the typical tower in that the important thing isn't at the top, it's at the bottom.
Familiar ground so far, but the occasional monster livens things up.
New monsters, and we get no proper solidarity from the WoePriest, though Gabo is in that class right now. The only really new monster is the Drakorpse, which is the weird undead dragon thing. I think it's a bit more interesting that the typical skeleton dragon that was dominant in most of the rest of the series.
Yep, the layout has changed somewhat - the old entrance is now well in the air.
This is new... therefore, it's the way to go.
Also the only way down from here.
Yes, that too.
Ominous! Well, nothing to be done but to keep going down. There's a door in the pedestal.
#97 - in a chest on what I'm betting is the second floor above ground.
Aha! The throne room! And over there is the entrance to outside! We can unlock it for easy entrance and exit in the future. We do it by pressing the two statues in the back onto switches. But now onto the basement areas!
Stairs or the ramp in the middle? I think... ramp.
#98 - In a chest on the second basement level, in the northeast corner.
Uh-oh, the dungeon's getting organic. That's rarely good.
See that horrible spiky thing off to the side? If you step close enough in front of them...
It eats you, and takes you to a different portion of the dungeon, usually a previous one. However one of them...
Takes you to the platform behind it, where the route on down continues.
Several of these caves contain eggs that hatch into random encounters. The only important one is in the back of the room, and that's the one that leads to the next area.
The doorway into the next area is behind these eggs, so we fight our way on through them.
These glowing paths carry you along, which is fairly common as a little puzzle. But there is one important bit in this case off to the right, there is a cave.
See this cave? There are no doors, no treasure chests, nothing to see, right?
This is one of the few places MapMagic really pays off - otherwise you have to wander around checking every spot on the floor, and that only if you guess something's in here. But that makes 99 TinyMedals.
See this room? There are four paths in this room, but you can't reach any of them, because they're blocked. What should we do - any ideas?
It would appear that our path is obstructed. Perhaps you could make use of that certain object, Master Link? What do you think?
This is as far as we can go? What do we do now? Shall we call on the Spirits to help? You got something from them, right?
Looks like our way is blocked. Now what? I wonder if the Spirits might not help us.
Okay, we can go down the various paths by using the different charms. We only need to go down one, but we're going to take all of them, because there's useful treasure on each route. First we're going to take the Earth path... uh-oh.
Uh-oh?
I think Maribel has it.
What? How?
We'll go get it later. We'll just take the Wind path first, then cast Outside and get it. But for now WIND CHARM ACTIVATE!
This is like the three-dimensional maze we saw not long ago - unimpressive looking, but fun.
This is a very good shield, but not quite as good as a MetalKing Shield - it has the same effect of reducing elemental damage, but the defense isn't quite as good.
See this? This would take us to Orgodemir, but we don't want to go there yet, so we leave. It also fully heals you, so it doesn't matter how profligate the rest of the party is with their MP. But let's talk with Maribel, and get her into the party long enough to get that Charm.
the Demon Lord? Oh, I get it. You want the adorable Maribel to come with you, right?
No, but you still have the TerraCharm, since I forgot to unequip it from you. Though you did give us back all of the stuff that you didn't have equipped earlier - that was nice. But back onward!
When that emblem broke, we flew into a secret passage behind it for some reason. That takes us into the Earth Maze, where many of the walls are breakable. This is quite fun.
The WellGhost is just a recolor of the various well monsters, but I just love their design. This one was tamed by the fierce beating we just delivered.
BEHOLD! The 100th TinyMedal! Finally, now we can stop worrying about them. The Gaiala Armor is next to it, which is better than the MetalKing Armor, so we give it to Melvin. But now it's time to check the other paths!
Ahh, a nice watery dungeon.
I love the way the Niterich looks, though neither of these monsters are really notable.
Told you!
And I said shush!
This sword is incredible. It's more powerful than the MetalKing Sword, it casts TwinHits when used, and if you just hit someone with it, it randomly adds an electrical attack.
The FireCharm sets a plant in the corner on fire, and we just walk in the passage behind it.
This helm isn't really all that game, though it does have a pretty nice name. But that's the last thing we needed to get. Let's go beat up Orgodemir now.
I am the beginning and the end. Do you understand, humans? The fallen God you once worshipped has been forever eclipsed in darkness. If you wish to live, you have no choice but to worship me. I am Orgodemir, king of all beings and ruler of the heavens. I shall carve my name on your bodies as a grim reminder of the ephemeral insignificance of man.
This bastard has been behind all of our troubles!
Awroooo!
Well said, Gabo. This is the first form of Orgodemir, and it's pretty nasty. He starts off by using things like WhiteFire, which do quite a bit of damage to the party, but nothing that is insurmountable. After a while...
Come, my children! I'll show you what my beauty is all about!
Mmmm, something smells quite pleasing. Who would have thought the Demon Lord would take such a beautiful form? What an unscrupulous villain!
Be cautious, Link. I think he means business!
I'm not feeling so great about this. Get this over with, Link!
He now gets two attacks per rounds, but doesn't have the crazy breath attacks anymore. He does get WindBeast, which he uses with a surprising effectiveness, so keep on your toes!
finish this. You're just insignificant pawns of God! You're no match for me!
Thou shan't get away with mocking my God!
I don't mind it as much now...
Enough pussfooting around! Let's get him, Link!
Eeeeeeeeeew. He's melting a little, and he's partway between his two base forms. He's actually at his weakest here - he doesn't have a lot of clever tricks or anything, though his attacks are pretty strong.
this! Never!
Ha ha ha! Now the enemy has had a taste of our strength! Master Link, the enemy is near death!
Link, it'll be most dangerous when it's losing. Watch out!
It's looking pretty close to the end, Link. Finish it off!
This is where Orgodemir stops messing around and starts trying to kill you. Usually takes two actions a round, performing attacks that hit the entire party for 100 damage a piece or more. WhiteFire, WhiteAir, DeMagic, Charge, WindBeast, this guy is no slouch. This is when I start busting out the UltraHits to try and take him out as quickly as I can. However, with some perserverance and, to be frank, overwhelming force...
of the heavens... How could these puppets... do this to me? My body... it's disintegrating... But... why? Could God be among... Uwaagh!
lackeys! We cannot even describe the joy we feel right now! From the sky, we can see the brilliance of life shining across every continent. Please come inside! We owe you our deepest thanks!
Oh, how can I express to you this feeling of joy in my heart? The small glimmer of hope we had for you has brought about the blinding light of peace. Not even the miracles of God can compare with your valiant efforts. With your immense power, you have cleared a way for our great people. Now you must go back, back to those who await your return. Go back home, to those you love.
Time to blow this popsicle stand.
take my leave.
Huh? It's Melvin! What happened?
You've all been so good to me. But as you know, I am from a different time than Master Link and the rest of you. I must bid my farewell to you.
Huff huff... Great Melvin! I'm not sure what's going on, but it seems the BlissRock is trying to tell you something.
I see... Yes, I shall leave now. Master Link and friends. I have truly enjoyed traveling with you. Master Link, surely you understand my position?
I understand, old man. Go with God, Melvin.
Master Link! I'm truly thankful to you! Please stay well!
It is at this point that the characters tour all of the cities, where the usual banal utterances of YAY YOU SAVED US YOU'RE SO AWESOME go on for quite a while, and they make you talk to everyone. Here are some high points.
be a Jester instead?
HOLY SHIT! That guy got his wish! Umm, yeah, become a Jester.
Oh, dearie me.
Ho ho ho! The Demon Lord was meant to be defeated ever since I became a bunny girl!
You are true heroes! Come back sometime and we'll bask in bacchanal excess!
You have revived the hero Melvin, returned solid ground to the world, and destroyed the matchless Demon Lord, Orgodemir. Perhaps you are actually our true God.
THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART. DO NOT FORGET TO DO THIS PART OR YOU'LL HAVE TO KILL ORGODEMIR ALL OVER AGAIN TO GET AT THE BONUS CONTENT.
well? I must be seeing things.
You take this to a chest. Remember the old man from waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the beginning of the game? The one that helped us figure out what we were supposed to do? There's a prison-type door that goes off to the side from the passageway to his house. If you follow that path to the end...
There's an empty chest. But you can put something into this chest. PUT THE LOSTSHARD IN THE CHEST. This will prompt a save. Save. Then continue on and talk with the people until the following occurs.
(Mollie) already! Today is the start of the yearly Amitt Harvest! Your father's already ath the harbor.
Deja Vu 2: The feeling that you've done this twice before.
(Mollie) Are you ready? You don't need to oversleep the morning of your first fishing voyage! Wait! I almost forgot! Here. I made two Fish Subs. One for your father, and one for you. See you later. And be careful!
(Borkano) I've come to a decision. Starting today, you're a full-fledged fisherman like the rest of us. I hope you're prepared for the hardships of sea. Before we set sail, get acquainted with the men on board.
here!
(Head Cook) Hmm? Is someone there? Maribel, you're trying to stow away again, aren't you? I thought you were told not to come on this voyage.
Oh, come on! Why can't I come along, huh? All I wanted to do was try some of that amazing stew you make!
(Head Cook) Flattery again, Maribel? Now get off this boat before your father blows his lid.
(Borkano) Hey, what's all the racket?
(Cook) Ah, Captain Borkano! Actually, Miss Maribel has...
(Borkano) Hmm. All right, Maribel, but just this once!
We did it!
(Borkano) All right! We're finally shoving off! Get moving, Link.
There's no time to waste, Link.
Then the credits roll. But there's a little bit more to be concerned with...
(Borkano) But it's different from those Shards you were collecting, Link. Instead of a map, it has writing carved in it. Let's see what it says...
Some Stone Plate posted:
Dear Link,
I'm still traveling with Layla and the rest of the Dejan Tribe. I don't even known how long it has been since you and I went our separate ways. As the Guardian of the tribe, the honor of marrying Layla fell to me. If you find this, I want you to let my father know his son has finally found his way in the world. And, Link, I want you to know that we are friends no matter how far we are from each other.
Your friend,
Kiefer
And that's it. Done. Finito. It's all over but the tough part.
Game time: Unknown - we kinda reverted to an earlier save just before I went into the tower because of the way that chest works. Dammit.
