Part 96: New Music in Chapters 12-15 + Ending

Chapter 12

quote:

43. The Tiny Future Shines Brightly
Original - Refrain of the Lovely Great War
Source - Strange and Bright Nature Deity 2
Author - ZUN
Arranger - Ibiza

Heh heh heh... You weren't expecting this song to make it in, right!? This is the custom BGM for the unexpected S-Formation Attack.
...I told you already, I don't give favorable treament! Really!
I went with an arrange with an upbeat rhythm and tempo to get the players heated up. All the themes of the three moon fairies seem to run the full gamut of atmospheres, huh?
Off-topic, but the variation of lines for the three moon fairies' combination attack is so huge, that I can't hide my joy as a fan of the fairies. There seems to be several lines to begin with already, but it even changes depending on who starts it!? I hafta salute you, Sanbon...!
I don't really care about the three fairies enough to comment on whether this theme fits them or not, it's just a more "rocky" version of the original. Guess it's good for the purpose though.

Chapter 13M

quote:

55. Unbalanced Unknown
Original - The Centennial Festival for Magical Girls
Source - Embodiment of Scarlet Devil
Author - ZUN
Arranger - cobu

The first of Flan's themes. I tried to make it feel creepy and unstable, just like Flan.
Sanbon told me "Around ~00:15 onwards, the music in the background reminds me of some song, but I can't place it..." As the arranger though, it doesn't particularly remind me of anything.
I don't particularly like this at all. It feels all out of pitch and weird, which I get is the point of it, but it's still not easy listening. Also far too slow for an attack theme.

Chapter 14

quote:

10. As Time Stands Still
Original - Blue Sea of 53 Minutes
Source - Retrospective 53 Minutes
Author - ZUN
Arranger - cobu

A tense enemy phase map theme. Although it seems like it from the title, it is not a custom theme for Sakuya. I particularly like this arrange as I was able to replicate the atmosphere of the original song while still making it into a servicable map theme.
...I had to time out Silent Selene...
I actually prefer this to the original. A nice enemy turn theme that really feels like you're approaching the end of the game.

Chapter 15
These songs own

quote:

13. Soul of Scarlet
Original - A Dream more Scarlet than Red, 7 Others
Source - Embodiment of Scarlet Devil
Author - ZUN
Arranger - cobu

The map theme for the battle with Flan. It's an adrenaline-pumping EoSD medley comprising of all stage 1-6 and EX themes. There wasn't enough space to fit the original songs above, so here they are: "A Soul as Red as a Ground Cherry", "Lunate Elf", "Shanghai Teahouse ~ Chinese Tea", "Voile, the Magic Library", "The Maid and the Pocket Watch of Blood", "The Young Descendant of Tepes", and "The Centennial Festival for Magical Girls".
The opening theme that plays again after coming this far. The familiar reverberating ZUN trumpets. The orchestra announcing that this is truly the final battle. This theme is the concentration of all the concepts, ideas, and everything that Fantasy Maiden Wars is about!
...At least, that's what I hope people think of it.
Now this, this is the real shit right here. A medley of all the tracks that have gotten us this far, this is where the true endgame begins.

quote:

56. Frantic Destroyer
Original - U.N. Owen was Her?
SRW Original - Alchemist With a Wavering Heart (SRW Impact) Valsion (SRW OG)
Source - Embodiment of Scarlet Devil
Author - ZUN
Arranger - cobu

The second of Flan's themes. Flandre is spelled with an l, but frantic is spelled with an r. I arranged it with the image of an impressive final boss, the incarnation of insanity and destruction in mind.
By the way, at the part where Flan is giggling, the music at the back is "Emblazoned with an Eternally Young Scarlet" played backwards. I was trying to display Flan as she goes back in her memories of Remilia hidden in her chest, then breaks them with a violent smash... Was I thinking it through a bit too much?
Ah, the giggling followed by the smash is parodying something, of course. Probably not what you're thinking of, though.

And then you get to this. Perhaps it's because it's based on the iconic U.N. Owen Was Her, but this song really feels like it emphasises Flandre's character. Plus it's nice and fast, just what you want from the final boss. You can hear the influence of Valsion more than Alchemist with a Wavering heart though.
(Youtube link removed because the pic made her look like Mandre)

Ending

quote:

57. The Rippling Scarlet Sea of Emotion
Original - An Eternity more Transient than Scarlet
Source - Embodiment of Scarlet Devil
Author - ZUN
Arranger - Ibiza

The ending theme. Quiet and peaceful, as if the waves have finally died down. Though it was made to serve as a huge full-stop to the whole game, it's a BGM that can still be listened as a standalone.
To be honest, I'm not very confident in making songs in this style (and anyone who's listened to my other arranges will know what very well *sweatdrop*f) but I love the atmosphere that goes with it, so I completed this without too much trouble.
While I was making this arrange, I upped the tempo for fun, and the amazingly cute song it became nearly made me laugh out loud. But that's a different story altogether.
Shit

quote:

58. Towards the Clear, Blue Sky
Original - Crimson Tower ~ Eastern Dream
Source - Embodiment of Scarlet Devil
Author - ZUN
Arranger - cobu

The credits theme. Whoa, cheerful!! \(^^)/
I imagined the girls going "Our battle is only just beginning!" as I was arranging this theme.
I always want to have everyone finish a game with a smile, so when the issue of the credits theme came up among the staff, I already knew what kind of style I wanted the arrange to be. Congratulations on clearing FMW E!
...Heheh, how about another playthrough?
Not too keen on this.

quote:

35. Orange Fancy
Original - Diao ye zong (Withered Leaf)
Source - Perfect Cherry Blossom
Author - ZUN
Arranger - cobu

This is Chen's theme song. I thought it would be good to arrange it in the spirit of 80s-90s mecha anime along with an electronic feel.
The song title means more towards "the whims of the orange". After all, cats are pretty fickle, or so I thought, but upon seeing the quit messages, Chen feels more like an obedient child than a fickle one.

it is as kawaii as fuck desu ne
Sorry dude but I'm not keen on this one either, just listen to Frantic destroyer again and wait for FMW2 chen.
