Part 28: Part Twenty-Eight: Whole New World
Part Twenty-Eight: Whole New WorldWell, the kids are all dead, but it looks like we've at least dispelled the darkness. Unstopped time, though, so I think that means everybody else is gonna die. Ehh, omelettes and eggs, what'cha gonna do?
This is Hell, I suppose.
Suddenly, though not pictured, the top screen starts to talk to us:
Warriors of the Light...
And this crone walks into the scene. Get outta here, crone, I'm dead.
You must seek out Doga...
Do not even think about giving me a quest unless it's to chill with Aria and Desch!
He is the only one who can help you defeat Xande. Seek Doga...on the continent of Dalg...
This is the worst death ever.
The afterlife is an inn?
: ...Where am I?
Three times out of five, this is what I think when I wake up.
Oh.
Wait, isn't it, like, a really bad situation if you're asleep for three days? Shouldn't this inn be a hospital?
: No one here remembers having their time stopped. It's as if it never happened.
Of course they don't remember it, dunce. Time was stopped.
That's the end of the conversation, by the by.
This old guy is just another job man. I figured he would have something interesting to say, but nope.
We can go right back to sleep if we want, but it's not gonna help anything.
We can also buy items (wow!), and probably should, but I never buy items because I am dangerous.
Haha, what? Why would anyone be named Goldor? Why would anyone own a chain strong enough to chain down an airship?
: Goldor is afraid that you four are those warriors of legend. He put a chain on your ship to stop you from getting to his crystal.
Uh, alright. Hey, can you tell me what year it is? I mean, has it been ten years or a thousand since the flood of darkness?
She can't tell me that, and neither can this guy. Nobody addresses it.
Wouldn't gold be a terrible building material? Wouldn't it just squish as soon as you put something heavy on top of it (e.g. a roof made of more gold)?
If you go to the bog straight away, you die like a chump.
So you need to get Levigrass Shoes first.
This won't be a problem, since the party's damage doesn't depend on anything categorised as "magic".
It looks like you can get behind the bar, but you can't.
So let's jam instead.
It goes over a lot better than the last time Sephy played the piano.
Let's explore Amur.
We'll start with a sonic exploration:
We can learn things we already know!
I don't think the bit where you're asleep happens in the original, so you'd end up in Amur with nothing to go on except Goldor having your ship. It probably worked better that way.
Standard revival wellspring.
Standard person about town.
Standard shop full of armour I mostly won't use. The Viking stuff is exclusive to the Viking class (never gonna use 'em!), the Heroic Shield is a shield, the Black stuff is alright for Thieves, and the other two are for Monk and I'm not running a monk.
This weapon shop is pretty good. Main Gauche is a nice upgrade for a Thief, the Thunder Spear is a Dragoon weapon, and the Boomerang is a thrown weapon the Thief can use and which might give full damage from the back row, but I've not tried it.
After the shop, I remember that I wanted to make Kuja into a Dragoon, so I do that. She's a Dragoon now.
Joke's on you, the bar was the first place I went this morning, after I was asleep for three days.
The person we really want to talk to here is the town elder.
Town elder Gill.
Then we want to talk to this kid.
Oh hey, four dudes. What's breakin'?
Okay, then. You guys, uh...you guys have a good time.
: What's that all about?
: Oh, the peanut gallery? Hee hee. Those old men think they're the four legendary warriors!
: Inconceivable...
Old people are useful to society, you prick.
So here's our boat. It's all chained up and we can't use it. In the NES version, you could get on the boat and sail it a bit, stretching out the chain, but you can't do that here.
The world map has opened up a lot, now that the mist is gone.
And if you actually use a Gnomish Bread, you can see that there are a lot of places to explore in the world.
So not being able to go anywhere is a real problem.
Before we deal with it, though, look at these shitty levels. We got our asses handed to us by the Kraken, and things aren't about to get weaker, so we should do something about it.
Something like this. Kids went into the woods, and motherfuckers came out.
It might not look like a lot, but with those levels and the equipment I bought, Sephy hits 20 times for over 1,000 damage pretty consistently, Kuja's not far behind, Jecht's Cure got a much-needed boost, plus he picked up some extra MP for Cura, and Golbez's Terrain is, like, 1.5 times as powerful as it was. Plus everybody has 700 HP, as opposed to 500. I really needed these levels. Honestly, I needed them before the Cave of Tides, but taking them now is the next best thing.
Next time, I'll even put them to use!
Mognet
Just a letter from Cid talking about how much better these kids are now that they know where to put their poop.
