Part 41: Part Forty-One: The Invincible
Part Forty-One: The InvincibleWe've found the Invincible, now let's see what's so special about it.
Besides its track, of course, which is hardly remarkable. Most every airship has its own song.
Here's the first thing: it's big. The Invincible is much larger than the other ships we've had.
Good thing Unei is here to explain everything to us!
This means that you can't go straight from flying to walking; pressing B brings you inside the ship instead of just landing. It's slower, and it can get a bit annoying if you're just making a small flight, but oh well.
The Invincible also never really lands! Instead, it just hovers, so you can disembark in places where you normally couldn't, like forests.
Hopping mountains is the ship's real "special feature". With this, we can go over small mountains, which gives us access to the last few areas in the game.
: ...I think so.
: Good. Now, follow me!
Unei is now going to lead us on a tour of the ship's other features.
First: vending machines. These are just regular shops, nothing particularly special. They're actually pretty irrelevant, to be honest.
Unei also hooks the kids up with a free Fat Chocobo. If you were carrying any Gysahl Greens around, they're basically worthless because of this.
This is a free inn. Always nice to have.
...And that's it! Now we can get our next direction!
: You're going already?
: Yes. I trust you to do the rest yourselves. Remember, go to the Cave of Shadows north of Amur and recover the Fang of Earth.
This is our next destination.
: Come to Doga's Manor once you get it. Doga and I must give you something before you continue on your journey.
This is a bit more remote.
Also, didn't Doga kill himself?
You can never tell with these magic types. Our party is back down to four, and there won't be another guest in the game.
On the other hand, now we can really investigate things!
Like the ship's magic shop. Pretty dull, really.
I pick up Curaja, even though I'm not bloated with MP for it.
The weapon shop is also boring.
Dark Knives would be a bit of an upgrade for Sephy, but don't have the Strength bonus of the Behemoth Knife.
Kuja could handle a Dragon Lance, but I like keeping the Blood Lance around so that she can take a bit of extra damage.
None of these shops are really awesome, like I mentioned earlier.
Also, for whatever reason, the item shop sells Gysahl Greens, which are
I don't know if my HP was restored after the Ancient Ruins, but I rest just to be sure.
Mognet is easily accessed from the Invincible. The ship really has all the features of a town, which sets something of a precedent for airships in later Final Fantasy games.
Now that we know what we've got access to, let's sally forth!
Once Sephy takes the wheel, the Invincible rises from the ocean and we're ready to go after that Earth Fang!
