Part 4: Chapter the Fourth
Chapter the Fourth in which our heroes ransack a series of empty houses and cause irreversible brain damage.
Ki's sycophants are as helpful as ever.
They are trying to get out! Take them out or she will die!!
Wait, I thought she was sick from Ashura's men being in her body?
Does this guy look like a doctor to you? He's talking out of his ass.
It doesn't seem likely that she'd get sick suddenly from something that's been in her body since birth.
....
No, literally, that's what she says. Not much help. On the other hand, the fairy is handier.
Giants should know how. Oh, yes, Ki told me to give you this...
It's Christmas in August!
Just for you, as you're the only person who talks sense in this entire place.
Off to Giant's World! This gives us a chance to see the doors in the Celestial Pathway, one of which we can now open and one which requires more MAGI. If you're ever unsure as to whether or not you got all the MAGI in an area, here's your answer.
There's not much to Giant's world right off the bat. You can literally see the town when you exit from the beanstalk.
and left here.
Why hello there, helpful individual who acts as an impromptu tour guide.
And no one lives there anymore.
I think we've got it by now. The giants are all gone.
the giant goods?
You live in Giant's World next to Giant Town. I'll give you three guesses.
The equipment is good, but very expensive. We pick up a Giant gauntlet for Bndr and will pick up a couple of Giant's armors before we leave here.
Johnny, who looks like Fry's twin (like any number of other people) starts singing as soon as you talk to him.
The bartender rats him out as a former giant, although this isn't enough to get Johnny talking.
Hey Fry, I think that's your dad.
We've been through this before. Not everybody who wears a hat is my dad.
Bet you 20 gold that it's him this time.
Oh God DAMMIT. Yeah, remember me? The son you just cost 20 gold?
Uhh...
Four panel glass, with green shutters.
Of course! ... oh, Fry... How's mom?
Dead for the past 3 years. I've been living outside the village eating scraps from the garbage heap.
What happened?
I lied to you, but you'd know that if you'd actually come home anytime in the last few years. She's fine! ...waiting home. (Hello again, Engrish) Let's go home together, Dad!
.. No .. I can't yet.
But.. we defeated Ashura!
There are more of those like Ashura going after MAGI.
Really? We've got about a quarter of the damn statue right here.
What?
MAGI .. We've got some! Here!
You're gathering them, too?! Then, take this!
Nobody would imagine that kids like you have such a thing.
Or about 20 of them. Anyway, I'm not a kid anymore.
We'll meet again as long as we go after MAGI. I'll come home with you then.
That's a conveniently non-specific timeframe.
Promise?
...Yes. I promise.
Okay, Dad .... promise ....
After that little heart to heart we can get into the back of the Giant shop. This guy spazzes out and asks where we came from, despite knowing there's only one entrance into his shop, and then points the finger at Johnny. With a confession in hand...
Johnny points us toward a discolored spot in the north stairs to Giant Town with no further prompting. How did he know that the shop owner talked?
If you talk to him again, he poses a question for you. The correct answer is no, at which point...
You can climb up the shelves in Giants' Town.
I have to wonder, did anybody answer wrong and get confused about that?
Ta-da!
At this point, the enemies have caught up with Zoid as far as strength goes. Unfortunately, none of the ones available will result in a good transformation. I love how the Fiend looks like HIM from the Powerpuff Girls.
The mice in this town must have been HUGE. Somehow the hole is locked with MAGI.
These are laying around in a house on the southern end of town. How are these still here?
Groups of terrorists dressed in uniforms that kind of look like the Chinese Army's uniforms roam the town. Real subtle. They are easily dispatched with a SMG or a spell, and give a lot of money. Not only that, they tend to drop items that are worth a bit of cash.
Returning to the previously locked hole we get a nice upgrade for Bndr. Geta give a character a +5 bonus to strength, which is very useful. A lot of people have mentioned that strength based characters can have flaws, but there's also the bonus of how easy it is to boost strength using items. As long as you take some time to work on agility, it's still doable. You don't really need that much agility to hit consistently.
For some reason, these enemies only seem to really show up in this room. The robot design is particularly neat. On the left is a Silver.
Up on what I take to be a table is the goal of our search. At last, we have the Micron!
After a bit of grinding, a quick trip to Ki results in automatically using the Micron and beginning the next phase of Operation Save Ki.
I kind of like this dungeon, since it's a really nice change from standard dungeons. I think it's kind of a creative dungeon, especially for the time period.
The first thing we find out is that Ki has both worms and crabs.
She's also full of rhinos, santa clause, and samurai. I take it these are Ashura's minions. It's kind of funny that this group in and of itself is probably more powerful together than Ashura was.
The Giant's Armor, Geta sandals, and a Katana are really showing their worth.
This dungeon's gimmick is that each accessible part of Ki's body has a magi in it. This area is full of large groups of enemies, and is a big step up from previous groups.
One of those areas is Ki's intestine and stomach. Probably better not to think about that too closely.
A few unique enemies inhabit Ki's body. They're not a real threat, but they're very interesting. Grippe is a word with a French origin that means influenza, but it's somewhat worrisome if we're destroying Ki's blood plasma.
It's pretty neat that one of them is actually in her heart, which they actually gave four chambers. Pretty nice attention to detail.
Ki has more MAGI in her big and little toes than some worlds do.
Collecting all the rest of the enemies allows us access to Ki's brain, which has an enemy sprite in it.
Fry has maxed out his HP with some insane gains while training. I saw several 30+ gains on him during training. 15 of that strength is coming from his equipment, but he's still got pretty solid stats. I boosted his magic through using a spellbook. Magic not only helps with your resistance to magic, but also affects how cure spells work on you. With that much HP, Fry needs them.
Lela has been gaining HP more lately, and is doing great in her stat and mana gains. Bndr is specializing in agility at the moment and contrary to what people have been saying he's been very successful using his gold bow even when nobody uses a gun during the battle. Zoid is starting to be in serious need of an update. You can see from looking just how much this dungeon has required in the way or resources.
So we need to attack Ki's brain cells? I'm game.
...that was easy. Phagocytes, by the by, are white blood cells that are used in fighting infections.
Did we really just fire off a machine gun inside Ki's brain? I think we need to leave, quickly.
But first...YOINK!
Umm... Ki?
going to do now?
We're going after MAGI to next world.
I wish you luck. So long!
Let's get out of here before anybody else notices she's a little bit slower than she was before.
Next time: to next world after Magi!
