Part 56: This form is called Super Freelancer 3
Chapter 52: This form is called Super Freelancer 3
Welcome to the last section of the Rift, called the Last Floor.
The random encounters are fucking brutal. King Behemoths not only hit for over a thousand, but respond to physical attacks with their own brutal hits to any and all magic with fucking Meteor. Running is the safest course of action. They're open to all statuses but Mini but with 1) at level 82 with 75% magic evade they usually aren't going to hit and 2) Meteor in your face.
The treasures are expensive consumables except in one case.
...Is that who I think it is?
...I think it is.
HEY IT'S: GILGAMESH!
Well, now I deserve it.
Zounds! 'Tis no beast, just Burtz! You should've just said so from the start! Oohhh, I don't like it here... Creepy monsters lurk around every corner, and I can't find the way out... Cripes... *sniffle*...I'm gonna break down! Anyway, how did you get here? Or rather, how does one exit?
Oh, just go that way then...
I see! Let us egress posthaste! Say...afterwards, what say we have a few spectacular adventures, just us five?
...Um.
...Oh, yes, that whole saving the world thing...phooey. If you make it out safely... Hah! No ifs about it. I'm certain we'll meet again. At that time, I hope you'll consider me a... Uh..er, *cough* Never mind, ha ha!
And with that, he leaves. The way further in is open.
Despite having enormous attack stats and powerful spells, the enemies here lack a lot of status resistances. They usually have very high magic evasion, but Odin ignores that part.
These guys in particular have Aegis Shields as rare steals. Don't leave one alone, or it'll bust out some powerful magic.
GODDAMNED MINDFLAYERS! They're actually Heavy, so no Odin chopping them. They cast Mind Blast a lot and react to damage... with Mind Blast. with 4700 HP it'll take a hell of an effort to kill all of them at once.
These enemies have massive ABP rewards befitting their sheer brutality. None of them offer EXP, either, and the gil ain't terrible.
Doesn't mean winning is worth it sometimes.
To be honest, I wasn't prepared for this fight at all.
I was too busy thinking of all the nice things after it.
BOSS FIGHT: NECROPHOBE
All 4 of Necrophobe's barriers have Reflect and bounce spells off of each other. Necrophobe himself is invincible while they are around so he does nothing but gloat.
Faris is a Thief with !summon and Lenna has !Time, I've got no healing that isn't item-based. These barriers can fling a Flare or Holy that hits for upwards of a thousand. !Rapidfire and Meteor have annoying habits of hitting Necrophobe. The Barriers are immune to earth, and guess which element Krile's !Finisher is!
Of course, I've beaten Strange Journey. I'm used to playing by the skin of my teeth. I'm a fucking pro at it.
Compared to the final boss of that, this guy is a complete joke.
Now that he's not invincible, Lenna casts Meteor a bunch and Krile uses !Rapidfire and he becomes mostly dead.
I say mostly dead because at less than 9999 HP this happens. killing him outright makes nothing interesting happen.
Surprised to see me? Hah! If I'd just left you in the lurch, I'd look like a jerk for all of history!
Hmph... you've a big mouth. If you're so eager to fight, you can be the first to die!
OH really? Just try it, Baldy! You cannot even hold a birthday candle to the blazing flame of my winning spirit!
For old time's sake.
Necrophobe's attacks can barely touch Gilgamesh's spirit!
And his 55,000 HP that he fully restores frequently BUT
Your grandfather... ...he was a pretty strong guy!
...Grandpa...
And you, Faris! You must fall in love, or something, and try acting a little like a woman- if you still know how!
Hey...
Lenna! Always so selfless towards animals... Never lose that pure heart!
...
And Burtz... I wanted to fight you one more time, mano-a-mano. You have admirable companions, I envy you.
Gilgamesh...
Enough of this! Die!
We get a save point, but... but...
That's it, no more sacrifices. We're going to become so undeniably badass that no one can stand in our way and no one will have to make the ultimate sacrifice to save us. This is it, this is the last instance of training. With the abilities from this, I'll crush everything.
It starts with using the quick-save function. Normally, it's so you can quit playing without having to trek to a save point. A nice feature for a portable game.
However, it rigs the next few random encounters. How it works in any other room is something I don't know and don't care to learn.
This fight is annoying, but it's easy enough to run from.
The second encounter, invariably, is composed of Movers.

Being undead and having a fire weakness makes Movers easy to dispatch before they can use a Delta Attack. Even then, it's easily healed before killing them.
The gil is mostly for cottages and elixirs at this point.
This is why I'm doing this. Nothing gives this much ABP. Some bonus bosses get close, but nothing can match Movers for sheer ability learning action.
So, In memory of Gilgamesh, it's time to learn a million abilities.
Lenna flies up Monk for the vitality, while Krile gets Black Mage for the MP and 'cause !Black is neat.
Burtz finishes of Time Mage, something I've been hitting on-and-off since Bal.
He then goes for Monk while Krile finishes Black Mage. Red Mage takes a lot of ABP to master, but with Movers it's a very manageable 5 battles.
As Lenna masters Monk, Faris gets !Dualcast.
Burtz masters Monk as well, Lenna starts on Ninja (though only Burtz and Krile use Dual Wield that often), Krile finishes Dancer so I can be disappointed by Equip Ribbon not being innate, and Faris goes through Oracle for even more magic and, ironically, ABP Up.
Krile gets Time Mage so I can have everyone spam something with Quick as Faris masters Oracle.
Burtz and Lenna master some obligatory Japanese classes at the same time.
Lenna finally masters Chemist, as though anything past !Mix was worth any effort, while Krile masters Gladiator for no reason other than I want to.
Burtz is getting that +16 speed.
Lenna is getting Oracle's magic.
Krile is getting !Catch as I literally cannot face the superawsome bonus bosses without it.
Faris is getting dual wield for some reason. This shit is layered, man.
And, to wrap it up, Krile and Faris get Chemist tricks while Burtz gets some bard action abilities.
To go with our massive collection of abilities, I try stealing from a Crystal Dragon. However, even if the steal works, their common steal is an Elixir and I need the rare steal. Either I 1)find a new crystal dragon or 2) cast Reset.
Getting this after a half-hour of resetting surprised me, so I didn't get a shot of the actual theft. It's stronger than the Holy Lance, and it murders dragons really well!
To show off how absurdly strong we've become, I'm gonna kill Omega now.
You see
Omega has a lightning weakness. This is the best way to exploit it.
Mixing a Potion and a Dragon Fang together produces the Dragon Power, which increases level by 20. This, in turn, drastically raises damage. It's why I've noted Dragon Fang sources so much.
Omega still hurts, mind, but Curaga mitigates that a lot. The 4 Flame Rings stop Atomic Ray so Wave Cannon is his dangerous attack.
Burtz is, after the Dragon Power, level 64. He's using the Chicken Knife and the Excalibur. The Thundaga Sword quadruples his damage.
Keep in mind, this is from a !Rapidfire.
I've hit Omega for around 70,000 damage.
The Omega Badge sits there in your inventory and says "good job!" pretty much.
NEXT TIME:
Stealing from the final boss for fun and profit!
