Part 130: The Epic of Gilgaluf - Chapter 3
I really need to stop procrastinating. I mean, I could've probably had this out yesterday if I'd bothered to upload the boss videos sooner. Anyway...The Epic of Gilgaluf - Chapter 3
Okay, so last time I did the Water Crystal sequence. Next up, Karnak!
These guys're paranoid, I swear...
This isn't exactly a logical train of thought, is it? I mean, weren't there monsters around anyway?
: Do you truly believe your puny jail could possibly contain the mighty Gilgaluf?!
: Dude, CHILL. We'll get in less trouble if we can convince them to free us instead of just breaking out.
: Right, whatever, now where'd I put that hammer I stole... let's see, sword, other sword, knife, other knife, third knife, sword again, stick, other stick, stick again...
: Sup Gramps.
: ...flail, whip, bell, other stick again, other knife again, sword again...
: Sure, let's go with that.
: ...katana, whip again, bell again, whip AGAIN, third knife again...
: That sounds like our bail.
: ...flail again, katana again, other sword again... wait, why's there a rubber duck in here? *toss*
: ...That's a good question, actually...
: Plus one other old man.
: Finally found the hammer now that it doesn't matter anymore.
It seems Iron was a short-lived upgrade, since we're already up to Mythril. I'll skip the Plumed Hat, though, since I'll be getting a Green Beret before too much longer, and I'll be skipping the accessories completely since they don't do anything interesting.
After pawning my old gear (and the dozen or so extra Mythril Swords I stole because why not), I head off to update my spellbooks.
The rest of my money goes to elemental Rods- I end up with 4 of each, in case I want to break them.
: Of COURSE it's full of monsters- why WOULDN'T it be?
: You know, one of these days someone needs to realize that putting monsters in places you plan to use later is a BAD IDEA.
Enkidu whacks one of these guys with a Thunder Rod in order to short-circuit it and watch it explode. Somehow this teaches him how to explode, too.
Gilgaluf still can't read maps.
I will be making a habit of stealing these from the Poltergeists (that thing up top) while I'm here, as well as Ethers from Motor Traps whenever I end up fighting them. Both will probably have their uses later, though I wouldn't recommend trying the latter in a solo run since Gamma Ray causes Stop.
Hat for Enkidu.
Time to add a sharpened Frisbee to the randomizer.
Vs. Liquid Flame.
: The stick again?!
: Well, if nothing else at least it's appropriate right now.
: Screw it. *SNAP*
Boss Deaths: 0
Total Boss Deaths: 1
Weapons Used On Boss: Frost Rod
Other Deaths: 2
I made sure to use Confuse to keep it in tornado form so I could add this to the list.
The first reference to a certain tree in the game, if I remember correctly. At least in more descriptive terms than gender-neutral pronouns.
Here's an interesting oddity: If Galuf's in the lead at this point, you end up with two of him on-screen at once, like so.
At least he tries- that's more than you can say for a lot of this sort of disaster.
Karnak escape time. Too bad Sprint doesn't do anything here...
Niiiice. This'll up my firepower considerably (and I didn't even have any trouble learning it, since the Gigas hit Enkidu with it first thing!).
Easiest way to handle Cur Nakks is to kill their handlers (which I accomplish with double Goblin Punch); they'll flee en masse if there are no humanoids present. Well, it's easiest unless you're willing to waste your MP on multi-target -ra spells, which is just inefficient.
Too bad there's no time to steal- Sorcerers have Mage Mashers and Gaia Gear, both of which would be quite handy to me. Anyway, punch time!
At least this is still there.
Vs. Iron Claw. I was tempted to just stick to the Ashura and not record (you know, just kill it as fast as possible), but then I remembered I have Aera now (so I actually have a good damage option regardless of weapon) and he's technically the boss of the Karnak escape (so I'm more or less obligated to record).
Yes, I make sure to learn his signature attack while I'm at it.
Boss Deaths: 3
Total Boss Deaths: 4
Weapons Used On Boss: Flail (I forgot to roll for the other three, but they all followed the pattern of "try to learn Death Claw, get both characters Clawed and killed")
Other Deaths: 2
: It's hard to come up with something quite so stupid as tying your castle's self-destruct sequence to something so fragile...
: To be fair, I doubt they thought anyone would want to break the crystal.
: Yes, but they almost broke it themselves, and they didn't even realize it.
Karnak Escape Attempts: 2 (the first time I got to Iron Claw with about a minute left and was thus forced to just kill him immediately. However, as a Blue Mage, I want Death Claw, dammit! Also: Those three deaths up there? Save states.)
Karnak Escape Failures: 0 (not counting getting killed by Iron Claw)
Someone should really do a ninja run at some point. Not like it can get as broken as the Omni-Mimes (though both of them have taken on extra conditions to make things interesting), the Chemist, or Rock (or, admittedly, Gilgaluf and Enkidu, though Galuf's kind of unpredictable in this run). Maybe it'd be something for Mega to get some catharsis from, if he can manage to get it started.
Also, this thing, which I said I forgot to get back when I was here in the Mozart run? I have confirmed that I couldn't get it before- the stairs up to this wall were on fire until just now.
I don't want to rely on Rod Breaking (completely aside from how Gilgaluf rarely uses them considering how many other options he's got), so I won't stock up on them too much. 5 of each will do, though that leaves me with about 11,000 Gil sitting around. After some thought, I decide that I don't really need consumables (the only buyable thing I could possibly use besides more Rods), and will thus save it.
This was a really lucrative encounter- not only did I manage to steal an Elixir from a Zu, it also DROPPED one!
Yes, I stopped off to annoy the local Chimeras for a bit. No, I'm not about to stick around long enough to try to steal their Tridents. Gotta say, Vampire makes things a LOT easier.
Here we are at the library. Again, though, I don't want this to come anywhere NEAR Mozart's run in length, so I'll stop before I hit 40 images.
Current weapon list: Knife, Mythril Knife, Main Gauche, Mythril Sword, Mythril Hammer, Ashura, Flame Rod, Frost Rod, Thunder Rod, Healing Staff, Flail, Flame Bow, Whip, Diamond Bell, Moonring Blade
Next time: We fight books to get a book for a bookworm. Or something like that.
: Too many books!
