Mystic Knights have the 8th highest strength stat. Their agility, however is quite high. Magic is low for something called Mystic. But it doesn't matter. Their middling strength won't inconvenience me either.


His chocobo doubles as a canoe.

Boko gets a portrait. For all of 4 or 5 lines in the game. Unlike all the other portraits derived from Amano's concepts, he gets a generic chocobo picture. I wonder why?



A quick peek into Spell Blade leaves much to be desired.

I pay for my compulsion to loot everything from the town with exposition.


!Spell Blade now has meaning, or will after the first dungeon.


First dungeon, wander around a bit collecting treasure I have no use for to get a couple levels and hopefully an elixer. No such luck on the latter.


Magic Shell is the first skill learned by the Mystic Knight. It casts shell in critical HP.


I didn't bother changing rows, so instead of one-shotting everyone it takes two hits each.


Aero is the biggest threat. Goblin punch would be too if I was level 6.


Since I don't care to heal, I kill the White Snake to prevent any more entanglements.


Mihnwu gets knocked into critical...


And shell procs. Just a statement of fact, not an endorsement or expression of joy.

I decide to run, just to feed the inevitable chicken knife grind.


Well, I would run if I didn't get paralyzed. Now all will die.


This is my first attempt at a solo run, and I forgot to actually buy potions in town the first time around. Phoenix downs are useless in this challenge, so they get pawned off for potions.


A secret shortcut to the boss and to a second broad sword.


Bird be steppin.


Breath Wing hits a couple times, but nothing that potions can undo.


And dead. No deaths on Mihnwu's side.


Despite all the feathers, he only drops one.

There is, but that is the way of the tutorial. Mihnwu will go down the hard way, using the blood of his enemies to float his canoe back to the bottom.


Everyone is still pining for the fjords. We'll be going to a fjord soon.

Now, behold the power of !Spell Blade!, this is Mihnwu's default attack...


Apply some lightning in a bottle, and...


Oh yeah, these jerks aren't weak to lightning, so it just wasted a turn and a pittance of MP.


Soccers, on the other hand are weak to lightning. Without casting spell blade, I'd be hitting for 60.


Bam, double damage. The later spells add more multipliers or other special features.


In the canal, your boat can run. Or Syldra can run.


Priority #1, bring the boom. Mihnwu is fast enough to at least do this.


Priority #2, get lucky and have him do physical attacks, or at least get lucky and shield block the feeler.


Hopefully he doubles up on Feelers, the status doesn't stack, so if you're really lucky, paralysis wears off fast enough to get in before his next attack.
