Part 142: The Epic of Gilgaluf - Chapter 15
Either FF5 is shorter than I remember, or I've been progressing a LOT faster than expected. The Epic of Gilgaluf - Chapter 15
Either way... time for the last dungeon (after mop-up stuff outside it).
I probably could've just grabbed these without screenshots without causing problems, but I've given the other nine screenshots and I see no real reason to make exceptions.
This thing gives a completely unsuitable stat boost; I mean, if you're gonna use an axe you're not gonna be using much magic, right?
I... suppose this is at least usable? Well, anyway, all legendaries have been collected now. Yay me.
Took a quick side-trip to the bonus dungeon's entrance, but I'm not going there again. Anyway, doing that unlocks the ammo shop for Cannoneers; I buy ten of each ammo, pretty much because I can. I have no expectation of using them, but better to have and not need, right? Besides, they're cheap as dirt these days.
Probably should've picked this up about two updates ago... Ah, well, not like I use !Summon very often. (Just one of those things I need to work on in the future, I'd say... I mean, everyone I've seen says that Summon is awesome, but I've never really tried it out.)
Switching flight methods real quick so I can head up to the Phoenix Tower area.
Let's get the repetitive part out of the way first, shall we?
That Parthenope was stubborn. She kept using regular attacks, and the first two of these she used targetted Galuf. That said, I'm at a good level for this tower, since I can just Goblin Punch everything until I level up (I'm currently at 49, and that's the level of all the random encounters- I honestly did not plan this, I just wanted to put it off until I finished the Tablets); to exploit this, I give Enkidu the Enhancer (since the Magus Rod, while nice for a pure caster, isn't very good for punching things).
Incidentally, I'm sure I don't have to say this since you're probably a more experienced player than I am if you're reading this, but I gave the Bone Mail to Enkidu to facilitate learning Roulette. Also: All Blue Magic has been learned!
This is what happens when you hit that 1/3 chance of a Magic Pot leaving after you give it an Elixir (instead of just demanding another). Not a very good trade, especially if it gets stubborn.
The only exception to the Magic Pots dropping Phoenix Down is on the 25th floor. Still not very good, since you can get them in bulk as early as the Island Shrine.
Apparently the enemy on the 29th floor is random- it was a Bandercoeurl for Mozart, but Gilgaluf got this guy.
Phoenix.
To North Mountain, for the last boss outside the Rift!
Vs. Bahamut. Reflect Rings and Level 3 Flare make this damage race reasonably easy. Also, I swapped Enkidu to the Enhancer to try to get a little more mileage out of his Flares. Oh, and on the minus side: I forgot to take the Bone Mail off, so the Blaze he used hurt a lot. On the plus side: Bahamut's scripted to counter reflected Mega Flares with another Mega Flare when he's under 10,000 HP, so if you can get him down that far and you've got Reflect up, you win.
: The return of the stick!
: Meh. Who's up for a Flaring contest?

And I now have all the spells from the original release! (And thus I am out of excuses for putting off the Rift.)
In we go!
: I see dead people!
: Hey, they aren't dead.
: Yet. Gimme a bit of time.
Not enough Flame Shields? They're a rare steal from Grenades. The Death Dealer does nothing but Roulette, every turn, so if you don't have it yet now's your best chance. Me, I just Level 3 Flare the thing, followed by beating the Grenades to death since they self-destruct if you cast spells on them (which can also be interesting depending on the situation, admittedly).
This is a lot less interesting when I've already got one.
I stop in the Ruins section a bit to farm up this Rune Bell from the local Baldanders. I was kinda surprised by the World 1 enemies that appear here from time to time- I mean, Ronkan Knights? I haven't seen those since I came back from my hiatus.
I can theoretically have both guys using Enhancers now. Not likely, but possible.
I could steal more of these from the Far-whatevers around this area, but I don't feel the need. Especially since attacking with them leads to either Flirt or Osmose, neither of which is particularly good for killing things (which is generally what the Attack command is USED FOR).
Vs. Calofisteri. The weapon I rolled is actually kind of nostalgic. Anyway, she's still not all that tough- I mean, I think the only vaguely direct-damage capabilities she has are Drain (as a counter which she doesn't even seem to do every time) and Poison (which she only uses when she's got Reflect, and flat-out didn't work on me).
: Your shield's gone again.
: ...Am I supposed to be some kind of musician now?
: Hey, don't diss bards!
: I'm not, I'm just saying that I'M NOT a bard.

A dragon who isn't Heavy? That's odd... but not as much as one that isn't internally classified as a Dragon-type enemy.
I don't like Roulette- odds are you'll wind up hitting yourself.
Not in the mood, Omega. (No video because Quickleak's literally the entire "fight.")
: ZA WARUDO!!!
(two hours later)
: ...What happened?
Think I'll cut it short this time. The Rift's got a LOT of bosses.
