Part 39: Post 14 - Sodium Chloride
Walter the (Super)Chemist - Post 14 - Sodium Chloridequote:
[00:50:54] <Lightli> this also reminds me that you never did the Sealed Temple with Chemist Kyrosiris
[00:51:31] <~Kyrosiris> yeah, that place is a fucking nightmare hellhole maze
[00:51:35] <~Kyrosiris> I gave up because fuck that
[00:51:38] <Lightli> just turn off random encounters
[00:51:45] <~Kyrosiris> just navigating the place is awful
[00:51:50] <Lightli> oh
[00:52:02] <Lightli> could always have used random encounter codes to at least fight the bosses
[00:52:33] <~Kyrosiris> what, like set next encounter to be X?
[00:52:38] <~Kyrosiris> I guess that could've worked
[00:53:40] <Lightli> yeah
[00:53:51] <Lightli> would be a ..... warm up for the fiesta
[00:54:01] <Lightli> I can't bear to actually call it good :v
[00:54:03] <~Kyrosiris> if you get me codes that do it
[00:54:07] <~Kyrosiris> I might give it a shot
[00:56:00] <Lightli> http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/930369-final-fantasy-v-advance/63744759
[00:56:06] <Lightli> here you go
[00:57:07] <Lightli> have fun dying horribly to the regular bosses
So here we are again. As above, though, I'm just going to fight the asshole bosses of this nightmare shitshow. The intended order to get through here, and the order I'll follow, is:
*Gil Turtle (done)
*Grand Aevis
*Archeodemon
*Guardian
*Omega Mk.2 (optional)
*Neo-Shinryu (optional)
*Enuo
However, I'm giving myself the following advantages mostly because I just want this over:
*Level 80 (to simulate fighting the bullshit encounter rate/density in here)
*Refreshed mixing mats between bosses mostly so I don't have to leave, farm, come back, etc.
*Done as Superchemist (Freelancer with !Drink and !Mix)
Let's get it on.
code:
Grand Aevis (Heavy, Aevis) 42000 HP 20000 MP Absorbs Fire, Ice, Lightning, Wind {Breath Wing,Zombie Powder,Blaster} {Maelstrom,Poison Breath,Wing Attack} {Zombie Breath,Zombie Powder,Evil Eye} Breath Wing Counter(HP Damage & Alone){ Unhide Monster: (Change Monster):0 Grand Aevis 1 Dark Elemental 2 Dark Elemental (Start Script) } Counter(HP Damage & Status(Party Member:Dead){ Set Target:Party Member Paraclete } Dark Elemental 5500 HP 10000 MP Immune to Fire, Ice, Wind {White Wind,Aeroga,Nothing}
If you can see a trend here, it's this: the elementals are assholes. Killing them is a bad idea. I'm just gonna rip their fucking teeth out with Dark Ethers and Lilith's Kisses.
The worst part about this, though? Zombie Powder. I need an Angel Ring, or I can irrevokably get fucked. Additionally, I need my dead teammates to not only be dead, but petrified, lest they get Zombie Powdered or Paracleted and turned into (level 1, unarmed) zombies.

Got it.
FINAL LEVEL: 80
RECORDED MIXES: 20
DEATHS: 2
Next on this magical tour of murder, Archeodemon!
code:
Archeodemon (Heavy, Magic Beast, Undead) 50000 HP 62000 MP Absorbs ALL ELEMENTS While(Var01=01){ {Flare,Holy,Meteor} {Flare,Holy,Nothing} {Hurricane,Death,Drain Touch} Display Text:Focusing Power Set Variable:Var00=01 Nothing Set Variable:Var00=00 {Giga Flare,Giga Flare,Mega Flare} } While(HP<20000){ No Interrupt{ Set Variable:Var01=01 Set Variable:Var00=00 Drain Touch } } Drain Touch Flare Display Text:Focusing Power Set Variable:Var00=01 Nothing Nothing Set Variable:Var00=00 {Mega Flare,Mega Flare,Giga Flare} Counter(Anything But Magic){ Set Target:Self Death } Counter(Var00=00 & HP Damage){ {Curse,???,Nothing} }
See that "Counter(Anything but Magic)" bit? Yep, it's fucking Rug Wizard 2.0: Undead Turbo Fucklord Edition! Instead of countering with Reset, though, he counters with Death. On himself. Restoring all his HP. Neato.
So first things first, we need to rip some Dark Ethers. However, I use a property of the way the game handles things with lots of MP (more than 9999) - if you use any MP restorative on them (like a standard Ether), the game is like "hey, you have more than your max of 9999 MP, let me fix that" and resets them to 9999 MP. It's WAY easier to burn through 9999 MP than 60000 MP, let me tell you!
Perfect. Now, I was originally going to use X-Potions to burn him down 9999 HP at a time. Sadly, since he's Heavy and X-Potions on undead count as a Weak attack, he's immune. Therefore, I'm going to tap into my powers as a Superchemist and use something offensive that is normally defensive.
Now he's DragonUndeadRugTania! And you know what fucking butchers Dragons?
At 9999 damage a go, this is a quick mop-up with his offense removed due to lack of MP.

DEATHS: just the ones he cast
And now for the boss that gave me the most worry before I started testing these shitlords - the Guardian.
code:
Guardian (Heavy) 55000 HP 60000 MP Absorbs Lightning Delta Attack {Graviga,Graviga,Gravity} Set Variable:Var00=01 {Encircle,Off-Guard,Reverse Polarity} {Atomic Ray,Electrocute,Electrocute} No Interrupt{ Set Variable:Var00=00 Display Text:The armor has been completely restored Unhide Monster:(Form Change):0 Guardian[F.1] 4 Launcher(L) 5 Launcher(R) (Start Script) } React:Death{ Set Target:All Enemies (Punishment) } Counter(HP Damage & Var00=01){ No Interrupt{ Set Variable:Var00=00 Unhide Monster:(Change Monster):3 Guardian[F.2] 6 Wave Cannon (Start Script) } } Launcher x2 (Heavy) 20000 HP 50000 MP Absorbs Lightning (Valiant Attack) {Missile,Rocket Punch,Rainbow Wind} Wave Cannon (Heavy) 22000 HP 55000 MP Absorbs Lightning No Interrupt{ Display Text:FIRING Wave Cannon Wave Cannon }
Now, for the sake of brevity, I left some of these assholes routines out. The TL,DR version:
*The Wave Cannon does one thing: counts down to your death. Like Soul Cannon, it does the text shit over 6 turns, and then fires. Unlike Soul Cannon, this mega asshole fires two Wave Cannons in a no-interrupt scope. This is an instant TPK.
*The Launchers fire the same missiles they did with Soul Cannon, but now also blind, use real Missile, or fucking Mustard Bomb (at 30 M).
*The Guardian is invincible until you kill everything else. It leads with a goddamned Delta Attack, so Reflect Ring is a must. It spams some other junk, then restores the killed pieces. YAY MORE DOUBLE DEATH LASERS!
The battle plan is simple. Murder that damn Wave Cannon immediately. This is what worried me most about the Sealed Temple and the reason I gave myself Oracle-level magic as Superchemist - I absolutely must be able to kill it fast enough or the endeavour is forfeit. I also get basically no time to set up mixes - I can do that once the Cannon is dead and the launchers are not. I'll drink Speed Shake at the start and pray.

Paydirt. Thanks, Holy Breath and 9999 HP!
FINAL LEVEL: 80
RECORDED MIXES: 19
DEATHS: 4
And now we're into the serious fucking shit. Enter Omega Mk.2.
code:
Omega Mk.II (Heavy) 65000 HP 60000 MP while(Var00=01){ {Atomic Ray,Delta Attack,Blaster} Wave Cannon {Rainbow Wind,Flame Thrower,Atomic Ray} Wave Cannon No Interrupt{ {Delta Attack,Blaster,Wave Cannon} {Maelstrom,Earthquake,Rainbow Wind} } Search {Rainbow Wind,Flame Thrower,Atomic Ray} Wave Cannon } No Interrupt{ Set Variable:Var00=01 Barrier Change Unhide Monster:(Random):0 Omega Mk.II[F.1] 1 Omega Mk.II[F.2] 2 Omega Mk.II[F.3] (Start Script) }
Does that look familiar to you? It looks familiar to me! That's the exact AI loop that Omega had, but with the form changes due to switching resistances. He also has this really adorable counter:
code:
Counter(Rapid Fire){ No Interrupt{ {(Remedy),Encircle,Nothing} } }
If you Rapid Fire him, he has a 1/3 chance of totally refilling his health. It's precious. Now, there's a problem.
code:
SPEED: 90
Jesus fucking christ. That's faster than Shinryu. So yeah, while Omega's routine is "simple", this shit is coming at you at the speed of light. Let's get started.

FINAL LEVEL: 101 (Real level: 81)
RECORDED MIXES: 45
DEATHS: 13
Now, Omega Mark 2 needed to die first because I needed his drop. It is the most precious of shields - even more than the hoary Aegis! Gaze upon the majesty of the Force Shield:
code:
ARMOUR: Force Shield DEFENSE: 15 MAGIC DEFENSE: 0 EVADE%: 10 MAGIC EVADE%: 0 WEIGHT: 15 PRICE: 34464 STATS: Agi-5 ELEMENTAL ABSORB: ELEMENTAL IMMUNITY: Fire, Ice, Lighting, Poison, Holy, Earth, Wind, Water
ABSOLUTE. ELEMENTAL. IMMUNITY. Authority over Almagest. Tenacity in the face of Tidal Wave. Lack of death via Lightning. You get my point. Now, what could I possibly need this much anti-elemental protection for as a Chemist?
code:
Neo Shinryu (Heavy, Dragon) 65000 HP 60000 MP Immune to Holy Vulnerable to some shit but nothing relevant Set Variable:Var00=01 Mighty Guard While(Var00=01){ Maelstrom {Ice Storm,Ice Storm,Blaze} Zombie Breath {Earthquake,Earthquake,Lightning} No Interrupt{ Attack Attack } {Poison Breath,Poison Breath,Breath Wing} Curse {Tidal Wave,Tidal Wave,Almagest} } While(Var01=01){ Set Variable:Var01=02 Mute } While(Var01=02){ No Interrupt{ {Attack,Attack,Critical Attack} {Attack,Attack,Critical Attack} } No Interrupt{ {Attack,Critical Attack,Nothing} {Attack,Critical Attack,Nothing} {Attack,Critical Attack,Nothing} } }
FUCK ME SIDEWAYS.
So Neo Shinryu is an interesting boss. There are actually two Neo Shinryus - the one that murders your fucking face with its Magic Multiplier of 72 that slings Almagests (for the record - that's 180 times 72 or 12960 damage; hope you have Shell!), and the one that you have to kill. The one that you get to damage has this annoying habit of flickering in and out of a vulnerable state. Sometimes you'll throw some mixes and they just won't mix! Too bad, he was invuln when you issued a command. Try again after two of his.
Oh yeah, two of his? Check this shit out.
code:
SPEED: 95 ATTACK: 200 MAGIC POWER: 180 ATT. MULT: 40 MAGIC MULT: 72 EVADE%: 20 MAGIC EVADE%: 120 DEFENSE: 100 MAGIC DEFENSE: 100
I'm giving you the full rundown instead of just the 95 speed because you should see how insane this is. Or it would be... if not for that Force Shield.
You see, so much of Neo Shinryu's combat routine is elemental attacks - Poison Gas, Almagest, Tidal Wave, etc. - that the Force Shield actually gives me many turns in a row to be in relative safety. Even better, this attack is pretty tame - from the back row and with Protect, it's around 1600 damage. Good thing, too, because when you get Neo Shinryu to under 15,000 HP? He casts the Time Magic Mute, sealing all magic, and then proceeds to double and triple attack with 1/3 odds of Critical Attack.

FINAL LEVEL: 81
RECORDED MIXES: 27
DEATHS: somehow zero?
For some reason that was... easier than expected. Force Shield OP, yo!
And now, with Neo-Shinryu dead at our feet (and if I was actually trawling this hellhole, the Ultima Weapon in hand), it's time. Let's put Enuo back in his fucking hole and end the Sealed Temple.
code:
Enuo (Heavy) 60000 HP Phase 1 65000 MP Phase 1 60000 HP Phase 2 65000 MP Phase 2 Immune to basically every status (AI routine was too long and was eaten by a Soul Eater)
This isn't a time for words. This is a time for science. Killer Science.

FINAL LEVEL: 81
RECORDED MIXES: 23
DEATHS: 2 (and one lost recording)
And that's that. Sorry to sorta cheap out on the Sealed Temple like this, but I really had zero impetus to finish and it was really Lightli's uh... let's call it encouragement that got me to even do it this way. Hopefully you learned something along the way from Walter, and can apply it to your own FFV games, Fiesta runs, or whatever. Just remember, kids: Winners Do Drugs (that artificially inflate your powers)!
