Part 51: Go In The Water, Grandpa
Chapter 2: Go In The Water, GrandpaWith the new Knight / Blue Mage / Black Mage / Black Mage team we hit Tule and I try to do all my shopping as quick as I can. He doesn't always like towns. I gear up the team.
"Go on the bridge!
"Okay."
"He looking at the water?"
"Yep!"
We get the key, set sail. He kind of gets that the wind is stopping because the crystal broke, I think. He calls any sort of blowing air, indoors or out, wind still. Technically right, I guess. He was in front of a (blowing) fan in his playroom after this run and said, "Wind stopped!" When I asked him if it was because of the breaking crystal he said "Yes!". I mean he could just be playing along with whatever I was saying, sure. But you never know at this age.
"What's grandpa saying?
"Use the water dragon!"
Popping Bahamut then Leviathan with the magic lamp in the Neo Exdeath fight is still fresh in his mind and he wants to see some summoned monsters. I got nothing, so I distract him:
"Do you want to get bat powers?"
“YES”
Honestly with this party fighting went super smooth. I was able to even grab goblin punch off the bat in the wind shrine before I left too. The kid doesn’t really like transparent grinding I don’t think, so for the best that it happened fast.
True to my word.
I begin to leave but he demands I go back in. I… think I remember why.
Points to Stroper "What’s that?"
"Uhhhh. goooood question.”
We settle on ‘a bad plant” I think. I don't believe either of us were satisfied with that description though.
Anyway, the reason he wanted to go back? It is because he kind of remembers Boco is here. Well, "the bird."
In my first run he was very interested in this bird in the bed. He would demand we go back to see him now and then.
And the doctor. After the first time I explained this to him, he would ask if every old man sprite guy was a doctor. I explained to him that while that old man is a doctor, not all doctors are old men. I think he got it. At least he didn’t inquire after. Much.
“Should we open the water door?”
“Yeah.”
Lightning magic steamrolls the channel.
"What’s happenin?"
"A whirlpool!"
"Round and round?"
"Yep! In the water!"
Karl Boss here (“crab bad guy”) doesn’t put up too big a fight, between lightning and Vampire.
Lenna vamped her way back to max after getting a Tail Screw hit. Galuf got paralyzed. It wasn't so bad.
A smooth fight with the party. Score one for the little guy.
"Badguy monster?"
"No, Syldra is a good guy monster." He never seems to mix him up with Leviathan.
"There is a hole in the boat!" He is pointing out the stairs. "Go in?"
We do. To sleep
"Bad guy rocks? We on them?"
"No, they are just just normal rocks."
"Are they bad guys?"
"They’re just rocks."
"We’re jumping on them!"
"Yep!"
"Magicians under water?"
"Yep. Getting treasure."
The fighting is still very smooth and he asks about the rock bad guys, the water bad guys and the bad guy skeletons. I ask if he wants to change jobs now and then but he doesn’t seem interested at all. Maybe this is going to just be some bizzaro fiesta setup where I use these four classes forever.
He checked his hand again to see that he had two fingers up before showing them to me.
“Two rocks!”
“That’s right!”
“Go back underwater.”
He was really insistent about going back underwater. Even dredging up the ship only got me a ‘why did you do that?’ before he went back to it. But soon there would be a different distraction. A BOSS DISTRACTION.
Any time I read a ‘grandpa’ line he reaffixes on calling Galuf ‘grandpa’. He loves grandpas. (See also: Cid and Mid)
“It's a BIG bad guy! With big blonde hair!” True, kid. True.
He likes the physical comedy bits too. Fall down a pit? "Fall down hole again." Get kicked over a fence by a sheep? "Again." He loved the speed trap.
Grandpa got silenced off the bat and was on potion duty. It was a slow but steady fight.
"He turned pink?"
"Yes she did"
(He defaults to ‘he’ for almost everything still. He's still learning. Trying to explain the Faris gender thing is probably not gonna work now.)
"Grandpa!"
We leave the graveyard and he finally declares he wants to change magicians. "New magicians!"
Galuf becomes a knight. Well ok we’ll give him !black. Two Knights, that’s cool. I can work this.
"I want change him. I want to change his clothes."
Bartz is a white mage. Faris is a Blue Mage. Well !black on a blue mage is cool. Knight abilities on a white mage well whatever at least we are training one.
We set off, for the next town. Curwen? So many translations. We get in a fight or two and so far it looks like the new team is going good. It turns out having a three year old isn’ so bad when it comes to picking your te-
“I want to change them again.”
Well ok son what are we gonna-
Oh.
