Part 68: Paralogue 5: Scion of Legend (Owain)
Paralogue 5: Scion of LegendProposal
To unlock this paralogue, Lissa must reach S-Support with someone.
S Support: Let's get married! Nya ha ha!
Class time
A few of our soldiers get a job change.
Sully upgrades to a Paladin, which raises most of her stats including movement. Nothing incredible in any of the stats, but she won't fall behind anymore.
The biggest change will be Lissa, who goes from a support unit that can bash heads to one that burns people faces off. She gains flight, Lances, and Tomes.
Panne becomes...what, our third Thief? And none have promoted so maybe she breaks the terrible streak. Interesting to note that Panne carries her sword like an actual sword instead of a long dagger like Kellam and Gaius. She gains Swords and Locktouch.
The wares for beating Chapter 14. Solid lances and bows available for purchase, though we have more than enough since our army barely has anyone that can wield either.
Paralogue 5 can only be accessed by beating Chapter 14 or unlocking a bunch of other paralogues to bridge across the continent.
Let's begin the chapter.
So, um...what am I like?
Well... You're warm and kind, for starters. Even amid the darkness and desolation.
Your smile serves as a beacon of hope for all those around you.
Oh, geez! I'd better get cracking if I want to live up to that. Oh! I know! Do I have children?
You have a son name Owain.
Aw, cute! What's he like?
He's... Well, he's quite colorful.
Hmm... I'm not sure I want to know what that means.
Oh! Wait! One more thing! Does he have...
......
Yes?
No... Never mind.
Are you sure?
Sorry, I just remembered I promised to help Chrom with something....Bye! *leaves*
Lissa?
(Meanwhile, somewhere else)
This is it, boss! That treasure's here; I'm sure of it!
All right, woman. Speak! Where'd ya put it?
I've never heard of no treasures here! Honest I haven't!
Oh? Then I guess we're done here. She's useless, boys. Kill her.
Aye, boss!
The devil are you?!
One chosen by forces beyond mortal comprehension! See how my sword hand twitches! It hungers...for justice! Leave now it you value life and limb, for I cannot stay the hungry hand!
This guy's got rocks in his head... All right then, boy. Guess you're the first to *sliced*
Gragh!
I tried to warn you, foul villain. The hand cannot be denied!
Oh, thank the stars! You've saved my life!
Wait. That stance...
Rgh... Who ARE you?!
I am the wolf who howls for justice! The eagle who cries for love!
A chosen warrior come from the future to bring hope to a dying world...
Now, atone for your deeds in the eternal hellfire of perdition! RADIANT...DAAAAAAWN!
......
Blast you, sword hand! Now's no time for games! You've escaped fate this time, rogue, but rememberjustice always prevails!
......
......
Gahar har har! I KNEW there were rocks in your head!
Look lively, boys! Ignore the dolt and find us that treasure! Pinch everything that shines, and make for the hills!
Not today, ne'er-do-wells!
The legendary blade Mystletainn is fated for my twitching hand alone!
...I am so lost right now. What is he even talking about?
...Never mind. Let's just kill the bandits, and I'm sure everything will sort itself out.
Lots of forests to impede non-fliers. There are 3 Sages that give out items when one of our characters talk to them, but the enemies will gun for them ASAP. The one in most danger is the bottom-right Sage that will die in one bout with that assassin.
Gecko is by far the deadliest enemy we have faced thus far, with such a high speed that he can double even the fastest of our characters without a pair-up. With Vantage, even slow characters can't really take him out safely.
Very important to note is that the enemies around Gecko will not budge if you don't enter the boss's attack range. So effectively they don't exist until we want them to.
The party coming along to save the village. Lissa will carry a couple gifts for Owain when she meets the eccentric swordsman.
Lissa will start out the turn by recruiting Owain.
MOM?!
Hu-what?
Blessed Mother! I have crossed oceans of time to find
Oh, forget it. I'm your kid from the future! Look at the signet ring upon my finger. Behold, a perfect match to yours!
Unique in all the world, and yet here lie two. Proof positive my claims are true!
...Who did what now? Hold on. Slow down. Back up. Start again.
Um... Sorry about that. Look, the important thing here is that I'm
...Oh, gods. Owain.
Huh?
That's your name. Isn't it?
Indeed it is! And none have ever been prouder to bear it! For it is the name you gave me, Mother!
I've come to part the dark clouds that hang forebodingly over this era!
If Chrom recruited him
Nrgh! Sword hand, no! Control yourself! P-power...too great... C-can't contain it...
Um, sorry to interrupt your...conversation? But I have a question about your stance. You've crafted your own style around it, but it's clearly from the royal house of Ylisse.
By the gods old and new! Another future traveler?! And yet, impossible, for I saw none like him in the light... Who are you, villain?! Speak now!
Um, I'm Chrom. ...Of Ylisse? I have no quarrel with you, but if we must fight, then
UNCLE CHROM?!
...Uncle?
Wait! Hold on! Let me start over.
O fellow scion of the great hero, I greet you as kin and kind! From across the misty shores of time I strive, bearing forth tidings of
Keep it brief, would you?
...I'm Lissa's kid from the future!
That is...not what I was expecting to hear. Did you come with Lucina?
Yes. It seems the blood we share has drawn us like moths to the flame!
Like a great tidal wave of heroism, we crash upon the shores of evil and
Can you fight? Or do you just talk a lot?
My mettle in combat is the stuff of legend! Bards sing tales of my
H-hey! Wait! Uncle Chrooom! *chases after him*
I have but one request. If you find the sword Mystletainn, please permit me to wield it!
I heard you wailing about that before. What kind of blade are we talking here?
A legendary one, Uncle! Imbued with the very power of the gods, if the tales are to be believed. I would use its might to defend my sacred queen and mother!
...You mean Lissa? *Sigh* I suppose I should just be happy she has such a...devoted son.
Owain starts out as a Myrmidon, inheriting Anathema for the extra crit and Renewal for healing. He has absurd starting speed and skill, and decent power.
Lissa pairs with her son to give him a magic boost, which helps him deal with the nearby Dark Mage using that Levin Sword from King Gangrel.
Owain gets a critical, showing off the Levin Sword pose for a Myrmidon.
Robin gets support from her son as she chips out the speedy Assassin. Even with Morgan's help, she can't double him.
Sully finishes off the Ruffian.
Tharja gets mainly a skill boost from Donny to get enough accuracy to chip a Myrmidon.
Chrom and Vaike join forces as the latter cleans up the same swords enemy.
Vaike finally gains speed, and his stats are pretty comparable to Sully. Then again, Sully didn't gulp down 10 grand worth of stat boosters just to keep up. Despoil triggers after the battle.
Lucina travels south to help out that front. Panne pairs with Henry, then moves north with Panne in front.
Gregor supports Cherche, who then flies to try and rescue the southern Sage.
Lucina and Vaike dodge some enemy strikes.
Sully gets attacked by a couple Barbarians. Henry trades blows with a Myrmidon and gains a level.
Some strength would be nice, Henry.
Owain chips out a Ruffian, while Lucina finishes off an enemy at the southeast.
Donny takes out the threatening Assassin with Tharja's help.
Vaike targets a Mage from the safety of a Forest tile, but Chrom outshines the Vaike in battle.
Cherche moves south and chips the Barbarian. Morgan blocks the Wyvern's path to keep Henry safe from being surrounded.
Sully weakens the Myrmidon for Panne to take the kill.
Owain takes on a Berserker and Myrmidon, taking out the latter for his first level.
Owain adds to his great speed and skill, and even gains some juice for the Levin Sword as well.
Sully gets attacked by the remaining starting Barbarian, down to nearly single-digit HP.
Owain takes out a Wyvern Rider for another level.
Owain, low on health, activates Vantage to get a quick strike in with Lissa helping to fry the Wyvern Rider.
The upper Wyvern Rider couldn't press the suicide button faster as he attacks Morgan with an Elwind.
Morgan is just a blob of solid stats.
Lucy takes out a couple Wyvern Riders and gains a terrible level. I think that quote is Lucy's "My strength comes from diligence" version of terrible stats.
This map gives out free healing from the Sages with their Physic Staves, so losing Lissa as a healer wasn't that big a deal. Renewal triggers as well, getting Owain back to full strength.
Panne gains a Panne level. Strength, girl. You need strength.
Tharja takes out the southern Wyvern Rider for a good level...except skill. How do you still have single-digit skill?! Jeez, if you didn't have your two Dark Mage abilities and pair-up to increase your hit, could you hit the ocean?
Cherche flies over and lets Gregor take out the Barbarian, rescuing the southwest Sage. Cherche gains B rank Axes afterwards.
Too late, Vaike.
Lucy heals herself with Falchion and stays in the safety of a Forest.
Owain finishes off the Berserker and gains everything but power and resistance. Please gain some more power, Owain.
On our turn, Owain takes out another enemy unit and gains some EXP from the Event Tile.
Hail, traveler. Thank you for coming to our aid. Please use this to treat your injured. It's an old recipe, but well effective.
Sully gets an Elixar for talking to the north Sage.
Vaike and Tharja finish off the last southern enemies.
You're a welcome sight indeed. I'd near given up hope! This is one of our village treasures. May it help you in keeping us safe.
The southwestern Sage gives a Spirit Dust for our troubles.
You have our thanks for your bravery. I'm afraid this medicine is all I can offer in return, but I pray it keeps you safe.
...Okay, so this may be a dick move but it's actually a pretty big hint someone else should've talked to the Sage. Namely, Owain.
If Owain talked to the southeastern Sage
You're a kind soul to fight for strangers so. Here, you must take this.
By the ghost of Ike! I've found it at last! The fated mate to my sword hand!
...The divine blade, Mystletainn!
Er, I'm afraid this is a blade of extremely common make, sir. I was using it to dig a well, but I figured you might
Come, Mystletainn! Destiny beckons! *Leaves*
I also used it to cut small vegetables before it got dull. ...Er, hello?
(Obtain Missiletainn. 8 Mt, C rank Sword, +1 Skill, 10 crit, only Owain can use it with 35 uses.
Actual Mystletainn is 14 Mt, A rank sword, +5 Skill, 15 crit, 25 uses).
The blade of legend and song... I feel its power coursing through me! At last, my sword hand lays calm. Come, Mystletainn. Destiny beckons! The rest of these rogues are ours alone!
Anyway, Tharja lands on a support-boosting Event Tile. The next few turns are spent getting everyone near the edge of the danger zone to trigger Gecko's attack.
Owain and Lucy will take on the immediate forces, with Lucy having her father's help to survive against Gecko.
Team Blue Ylisse takes out the first victim, with Chrom gaining a great level off a Dual Attack. Lucy gains B rank swords.
Lucy just told Ike she was going to eat his bones or something, you think you scare her?
Told ya.
A job well done. Lucy gets a Second Seal from Gecko's corpse.
Owain gains a level fro chipping an attacking Berserker. Man, this kid does NOT want more power.
Vaike finishes off the same enemy and gains luck, not speed. Grr...
Tharja weakens a Dark Mage for Owain to gain the kill EXP.
Panne finishes off other Dark Mage for a good level.
Sully gets some chip EXP for a good level. If you're only going to get 3 stats, those are the ones to get.
Owain finishes the map by gaining every stat except magic.

Truly, from all of us, thank you.
*After the battle*
......
Ugh, maybe I should just forget it. If he doesn't have one, either...
Keh heh! Let's have all your coin, girly! Unless you wanna lose that pretty head.
Stay back!
No one hurts the mother of Owain! SACRED...STOOOOOONES! *slashes*
Guhaaargh!
Mother, are you all right?!
Yeah, I'm fine. I'm... Holy crow! Your arm!
This? Hah! It's not but a torn sleeve.
Oh, right! Sorry. Guess I should have shown you before.
It's my Brand. The one carried by House Ylisse. So no more need to worry, eh?
Th-then you know? That I don't...
That your Brand never surfaced? Yes, you told me as such.
You said it always weighed on you... You should have seen how happy you were the day mine appeared!
You were sobbing and laughing for an hour without pause!
I was kind of hoping to grow out of the crying thing...
Yes, well. No more worrying.
It was by chance alone your Brand never surfaced. We're all family, linked by blood. You really are Chrom's sister. My Brand proves our lineage.
Thank you. Just... *sniff* Thank you, Owain.
You're welcome!
Heh... *sniff*
And as scions of the hero, it falls on us to ensure my dark future doesn't come true. Come, Mother! We shall fight together!
Uh-oh... Argh... Too much...passion! Sword hand...getting hungry...again!
You know, maybe you should have that looked at.

Owain is fast. Faster than fast. Can't really hit for that much damage, but a power support will help solve that. Being Henry's son gives him access to the Dark Mage and Thief tree, which can make him either a decent Trickster with his decent magic or a hybrid Levin Sword user as a Dark Knight to take advantage of his mixed stats and sword rank.
Official bio: Lissa's future son. His elaborate theatrics suggest a need to stand out, as do the absurd names he bestows upon his weapons and his "special moves." The most apt to shout "Level Up!"
