: I just thought I'd see if you could tell me any more about mercenaries.
: There's not much to know. They're scum.
: There has to be more than that! I mean, for Wolfgang to get the kind of support he did, there must be more to their situation.
: Hrmph, Wolfgang? Having been one of them myself, I know his situation was by no means unique amongst the mercenaries. Since they feed off conflict, they are reduced to beggars in times of peace. The fortunate ones make a living as bodyguards or hired swords. However, once they band together in a mercenary corp, there are few employment options in times of peace.
: So, their numbers are suited only to large conflicts at that point?
: Correct. Another problem for the mercenary is loneliness. When the war is over, there is no one to go home to. Fortunately, I have Karene.
: You have a unique perspective on the problem, to be sure.
: Yes, but just because I understand it does not mean I condone their provocation of war. Had Wolfgang controlled his ego, he could have been a fine leader.


: What?!
: You have the same charisma as the Growlanser.
: But I'm not like him at all!
: It's not your appearance or personality I'm talking about. I'm referring to the intangible pull you exert on those around you. The sense of security you give to those with you.
: B...b...but it's not like that...

: I just don't like to be compared to...others.
: That is inevitable. Just be glad the comparison is favorable this time!

: That doesn't sound like good news...
