Part 14: Chapter 4 Interlude

4.3

Enter an abandoned mall in the Vekta City slums. Dead Vektan soldiers are strewn about the floor. Pvt. Sanchez is among the dead.

VELASQUEZ
Executed. Fucking Helghast style.

TEMPLAR
S'blood.

[Templar] attempts to administer a curative.

SANCHEZ
Pray, stay thy hand, there is not time. Thou come for the spy, Hakha?

TEMPLAR
Nay, soldier, if I may--

LUGER
The spy, yes. Tis he nearby? Hath he been taken captive?

SANCHEZ
The Helghast--yonder--not twenty minutes have past.

LUGER
Templar, stay thy hand.

SANCHEZ
A troubling surprise awaitest thou. The spy he--he--

LUGER
Alas, poor Sanchez. I knew him, Luger;
A fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy;
He hath borne me across the battlefield past a thousand bullets;
And now, how abhorred in my imagination it is!
My gorge rims at it. Here hung those lips that I have laughed with I know not how oft.
Where be your gibes now? Your gambols? Your songs?
Your flashes of merriment, that were wont to set the company on a roar?

VELASQUEZ
This spy better be worth all this bullshit.

Let's pause for a moment and appreciate the genuine moments of beauty and destruction in this game:

We're actually several chapters ahead in terms of recording, and the next few levels get pretty same-y, so I think its important to remind ourselves that Killzone actually was one of the best looking PS2 games at that time. This shot is also great because that storefront looks like it could have an incredibly inappropriate name.

Speaking of inappropriate storefront names:

Glazius posted:

So can Rico ever find ammunition for his wrecking ball of a gun, or is he limited to what he starts a chapter with?

Oh, and to answer Glazius's question, we find a "Rico Ammo" pick-up early on in this particular stage. They're rare and elusive, so seek them out--you need them to play with the fun gun (but yeah, you're mostly limited by what you start the chapter with. there's maybe one pick-up per chapter):

And it's at this point that we bid adieu to Pvt. Sanchez. After breaking off from Templar early on in the game, he seems to have fallen in with the group tasked with protecting Colonel Hakha. Unfortunately, Hakha was a high enough priority target that the Helghast rained down death and destruction on this squad wiping them all out, Sanchez included. It's too bad. I liked Sanchez. He was a good tutorial level guy.
