Layton Brothers: Mystery Room

Part 82: Good Cop, Bad Cop - Part 13

Ground Floor:

It might be covered in dust, but even I can tell this is a top-notch piece of furniture.

It's ever so study, but it weighs a ton, too. I wonder if it could've been the key to this mystery somehow?

We're taken back to this screen as soon as we find any new evidence.

And there's plenty more to examine at the scene, if not.

Still, I reckon I should get back to the others and see what's what. Hilda should be there by now, too.

There's still some evidence to find, so returning to the scene...

There shouldn't be any arrests anyway? It sounds like Alfriendli has been tried for Makepeace's murder, and it's already been proven that Al couldn't have killed Diane.

It's time to prove once and for all if the stairs really are the only way to the top of the West Tower.

Time for my best snoop around yet!

If this is supposed to say summat to me, it's gone right over my head.

I can't see how it could be any use to anyone, this, but you never know.

First Floor:

This looks like a very tough old frame, this does. Could be useful for summat, maybe?

Ee, that's nasty. I wonder what happened to this four years ago.

Bit sus if you ask me...but maybe I'm being over-sensitive.

This must have been done on purpose, this. It wouldn't just have broken like that.

I wonder if that's significant at all.

Second Floor:

Now that's a proper cordless phone, that is.

Hee hee.

Joking aside, though, where's the cord ended up, eh? And what's it been used for?

Third Floor:

There must've been summat in here that someone were right desperate to get their hands on.

Very interesting.

Rooftop:

Eh-up. Has that ivy been torn off the wall by someone, has it? Seems a bit unusual.

Might be worth noting, that.

As I'm still working on the next update, and we have all the evidence now, I'm going to put the hints up now.

The Prof must've swiped this file from Justin's office.

We never are told when exactly when he took the file.

You'd think it'd be int' archives by now. I suppose Justin still can't lay it to rest, even after all this time.

It looks like the Prof had a narrow escape. If Diane hadn't been killed, the Prof would have been.

Looks like this axe hasn't been touched since the Commissioner used it to break the door down.

I still can't picture such a little man going hammer and tongs at a door with an axe, mind.

By 'eck that's right jiggered, that door is. Nowt's going to fix that now.

The Commissioner must be a lot stronger than he looks.

Ee, just think, Pig's body must still be in there.

We need to get this sorted as fast as possible so we can make the proper arrangements.

It's these windows that really make it feel like a castle.

What a pain having to worry that much about being attacked, that you couldn't get much light inside.

Does this mean Diane were planning to kill the Prof all along?

I get the feeling Diane was ready to be arrested for murder if it meant she could get her revenge on Alfendi.

Diane warned me not to trust the Prof.

I wish I knew what to do.

Both Hilda and Justin are suspects in this case. I hate having to doubt people I know. It's that ugly.

Ee, but the Commissioner's such a timid little man.

No, he couldn't be a master criminal. Could he?

Ee, that fellow gives me the willies. Just looking at his mugshot's enough to have you quaking in your boots.

Hard to believe he's Diane's dad. In fact, that almost makes me warm to him a smidgen. Almost.

Diane Makepeace...

You could kill someone without batting an eyelid, couldn't you? Pure evil.

But I just can't help feeling like...

Ee, it sends shivers down my spine just thinking about it.

I'm glad it weren't me!

It's hard because it's the Prof, but I can't let myself believe him without checking the facts first.

I need to investigate the scene same as ever, and the truth will come out int' wash.

Lucy is being a little less hasty with her conclusions this time, but that's probably more due to the fact she personally knows all the suspects than anything else.

If the Commissioner's statement ties up with this one of Hilda's, that'll be good enough for me.

But he's really taking his time getting here. Where's he got off to?

This statement makes the Prof sound like a right murderous so-and-so.

I'd love to say it's a load of rubbish, but I need proof and I've got nowt right now.

Once the evidence has been collected...

I just need to figure out the secret way to the West Tower rooftop, and it'll all fall into place.

Won't be long now, Prof.

I'm going to solve this one now. You see if I don't!
