Part 14
Maybe later. I need to do something first.
We need to go back to this fort, since there's a hidden optional boss here.
Hey there.
The Black Assassin, despite his appearance, is actually really easy.
He has a set pattern that he will never deviate from that goes like this.
step 1: Charge
step 2: use Sonic Storm
step 3: use Mega Slash
step 4: repeat steps 1-3
So the way to beat this guy is to rather simple, just defend when he's about to use Sonic Storm, and then have Gavenger or Katz use Counter Zone when he's going to use Mega Slash.
The only thing that makes this guy somewhat of a threat is that his sword can inflict Acid, and his rather high Critical rate, which can inflict Harm on your pilots.
Once you've figured out his pattern, the battle is practically over.
Our rewards for conquering the Ninja Kaempfer is some right shoulder armor that is just perfect for Katz, and a rather crappy sword. Tremmie also learns a new Boost, which always goes first and prevent the enemy from counter attacking.
Despite the Ninja Sword's poor strength, I gave it to Aeon. Maybe she can give some poor bastard Acid with a counter attack.
for the record, Beam Sabers, which have the same size as the Ninja Sword, have nearly double it's strength (98 ATK compared to the Ninja Sword's 50).
Now we can go to Ravine Wyvern
On my way there, though. I ran into some Leos!
They're also quite a bit hardier than you might think. I think they also drop a rather nice gun, but I'm not sure since none of them dropped anything.
Also ran into some Shield Doms, which are exactly like the Shield Zakus. They dropped a Hizack Shield R.
I gave the Hizack Shield to Gavenger, since he needs the armor.
Katz, obviously, gets the new Kaempfer shoulder piece.
Just because, have a picture of the World Map. The Ryvern Wavine is above the little lake to our west, above the other two orange dots.
A Wild GYAN appears!
The wild GYAN is impaled through the heart!
It's a bit of a pain to get here, since you need to take a rather winding route through the trees and mountains.
WELL THEN, AS A JUNK DEALER, I'M GONNA BE LAUGHING ALLLLL THE WAY TO THE BANK!
I am so sorry
Fuck mountains.
SIGH.
Who thought giving a Guncannon a claw arm was a good idea?
Oh.
So yeah, we're fighting a Guncannon equiped for Melee combat. This is going to be a cin-
Oh wow, that's a lot of damage...
Katz ended up getting Hurt+ when Li Fang critical hit him for something around 200 damage.
Despite her large damage output, she goes down rather easily.
After we kicked her ass, she decides to stick around to see if Mr. Kingpin is legit or not.
Li fang does one thing: punch people. And it's one thing that she does very, VERY well. She's our resident Unarmed specialist.
It's a damn shame she isn't in something other than a Guncannon. Imagine if she were in a Gyan similar to the one Katz has...
Oh well, might as well show off a few of her Boosts.
Bakunetsu-Ken, you've seen before.
now for the new stuff.
SHIIIIINIIIIIIING FIIIIINGEEEEEEERRRR!!
Or at least close enough to it, for now.
Her strongest Boost just has her beat the shit out of the enemy.
GM slashers are a bit of a pain because their swords can cause Stun, which prevents a character from acting for a turn.
A new Mirror enemy. still has the immunity to Beam weapons.
After defeating a random encounter, Tremmie learned what is quite possibly THE most powerful Boost in the game.
You see, Gatling Fire is a boost that has a character fire all of their guns at once!
You can probably see how powerful this can potentially be later on.
The only downside of Gatling Fire is that it has a very high EN cost.
It's completely worth it though.
Enough about how awesome Gatling Fire is, time for a Mini-boss!
Two Gyans and a Gyan Launcher. This fight gave me a bit of trouble.
The Gyan's Plasma Swords can cause Short Circuit, which is THE worst status effect in the game. it completely prevents you from acting until it is healed.
The Gyan Launcher also got me with Overheat.
Victory gives us the Spray Launcher, which is rather weak, but it's small and can cause Overheat.
The chests the Mini-boss was guarding was a nice haul, too. The other two chests contained an EN pack and an SOS flare.
Fuck walking back down.
Let's explore the path we didn't take in the beginning.
Another Mini-boss. The Dom Knuckle is a bit of a pain since he can take a pounding and deliver it right back, but other than that there's nothing of note.
After beating him, Katz learned Gatling Body, which is essentially the same as Gatling Fire, but it only uses the weapons attached to the Mobile Suit (Like the Arm Machine Guns, Arm Launchers, and Long Cannons). Katz will never be using it.
Aeon, however, learned a very useful technique. Bits (and later on, Funnels) will do a very large amount of damage that will ignore armor, but if you are fighting a group of enemies, than the damage will be randomly divided among the group. I don't show it off in this update, but I do later on.
The other chest contained some Kaempfer Data.
The Flame Launcher is worthless. It's an incredibly large size, 4 EN cost, and weak strength means that it has no real worth. Only good thing about it is that it can cause Overheat.
With this side cleaned out, time to warp back.
The chest contained a Double Cannon, BTW.
Map of the dungeon just because.
After beating another Yellow encounter, Vargas learns his most important Boost. Counter Snipe is a Boost that will prevent all enemies from initiating a melee attack. This includes Boosts. This is a godsend for some bosses.
After the aforementioned Yellow battle, Gavenger asks what's up with the Guncannon.
Yeah no.
After Gavenger corrects her, we continue.
I like all of these bunkers and watchtowers we see built into the mountain. They don't do anything, but they look cool.
Barrier enemies are completely immune to Melee attacks.
This guy also loved using Chaff Field.
The chest he was guarding contained an Armor Upgrade Kit.
The last Mini-boss. 2 Gyans and a Gelgoog.
The Gyans are the real threat since they can cause Short Circuit.
Once they're dead, though. It just becomes a slugfest between you and the Gelgoog.
Finally, we reach the top.
After being shown an empty base, she's convinced that Mr. Kraft is evil and must be stopped.
Oh, I wonder what we have to fight this time?
Hey there, Apsalus.
So. The Apsalus. It's basically the Beam equivalent of the Xamel, so the same strategy applies.
The Apsalus hits like a truck right out of the gate, though.
When he's about to use a Boost, USE BEAM FIELD.
You don't want to be hit by that.
After he shoots his beam, he will then use Magnetic Storm twice in a row. MS hits very hard and can debuff your speed, so make sure to defend against it.
I've been waiting for this!
Eat it!
He managed to survive the initial onslaught.
Useless!
He died right after he got that single Boost off.
"Fuck you kid! HAHAHA*BARF*"
Li fang leaves to go tell tell everyone in Tohai how much of a bastard Mr. Kramer was.
Vargas then gives us a lift back to the Pirate Base.
Of course, he does this BEFORE WE CAN LOOT THOSE TWO TREASURE CHESTS! I'll have to come back for those later.
