In Clan society, only the young are useful MechWarriors due to their better reaction time. Once you get past 25, you're put out to pasture, and once you reach 35, you had better be dead. The Hunchback IIC is a Mech designed to allow for one of these old MechWarriors to die in glorious battle.
On the offense, the Primary version of this Mech mounts a pair of Clan Ultra AC/20s, the massive offensive array forcing the doomed pilot to close to close range to deliver any sort of damage, but once there, they are too powerful to ignore.
As the 'Suicide Mech' of the Clans, it is not supposed to see front line combat, instead being a garrison unit or one that is called to a Trial with the express understanding that the pilot is going to die. Surviving more than a couple battles in this 'Mech shows either a failure on the part of the pilot to die properly, or an insult on the part of the enemies to not put down the pilot like they should.
Rumors that the pilot ejection systems are disabled, or not even included are unconfirmed.
Unlike the Inner Sphere Hunchback, the IIC version sacrifices huge amounts of armor to mount a second Clan Ultra Heavy Autocanon. In MechCommander, this is reflected by the -J and -W versions having the same armor as a Mech 20t lighter. The -A still has less armor that its weight-class contemporaries, but is still tough enough to wade into battle directly.
I like the IIC because it gives the players an interesting view into Clan Society. For them, there is no such thing as Age and Cunning, it's all about the Youth and Energy. One of the things that shocked them during their invasion was the presence of older MechWarriors - as in over 40 - who could hold their own in battle (not discounting the technological disparity), and the Clans for a long time refused to accept the idea that their idea of what a MechWarrior should be could be incomplete or even slightly flawed.
The -A goes away from the intent of the Mech to make it into a Clan copy of the basic Hunchback-A, although it is still a bit short on the Armor. You can treat the -A effectively as a Hunchback with more weapon space and less armor.
The entire design was difficult for me to stat out in a TRO as the weight saving measures quickly maxed out the critical space of the default design, so I had to play loose with the loadout. I finally had to replace the Ferro-fiberour Armor with Standard to reach the right balance.
