Dating back to the Star League, the Catapult was never meant to see the deployment it historically found itself in. Originally given a two year production run, the effectiveness of the design and its simple robustness kept it in production after the fall of the Star League, where the Capellan Confederation maintains the only reliable source of this 'Mech in the Inner Sphere.

Designed to stay at the edge of battle, supporting friendly foes with the twin LRM-15 racks, the Catapult is tough and agile enough to mix it up with anything in its weight class for the most part.

Sadly, in MechCommander, this 'Mech is made completely obsolete by the lighter Vulture in every way.

The -A replaces the four Medium Lasers of the CPLT-C1 with two Medium Pulse Lasers, and additional ammo and heat sinks. This design lacks the shorter range punch of the basic chassis, so should definitely stay at the edge of battle. The Machine Gun is added at my discretion to make up for the last 1t of weight.

Finally, the -W improves the Laser weapons somewhat, bringing in better range to the energy weapons. Heat becomes an issue now, but nothing serious.
