Contributed by the Draconis Combine to Operation BullDog, the Mauler began life as a cut-down Atlas before the Clan Invasion. This design bears little resemblance to that BattleMech. With a focus on Long-Rage weapons, this Mauler is an excellent Assault Mech that doesn't actually need to assault the enemy. The paired LBX-2 and Light Gauss Rifles make for a devastating punch at long range with the LRM racks adding that extra bit of You're dead! The Large Laser is practically superfluous, except for that most vital rule of BattleMech design.

The -W is far too over-gunned to bring into BattleTech, so sacrifices had to be made. And I hate it. The problem was the paired LB-X 20's, and one had to go, followed closely by many other things. What is left is a 'Mech that best fights at Medium Range, where the ER Large Laser and Light Gauss can whittle down a Mech before the LBX-20 comes into play.
